Guardians of the Galaxy contains a fair amount of easter eggs that have already been discovered. There is, however, one apparently big easter egg that has proven virtually impossible to find. Director James Gunn insists that the easter egg is real and he’s not trolling audiences to get them to watch Guardians of the Galaxy over and over, but it has nonetheless remained elusive.

"There's definitely one really big thing that people haven't seen, but they may never see it -- we'll see. There's other things, too," Gunn said around the time of the movie's Blu-Ray release, according to ComicBook.com. Gunn even went so far as to bet a skeptical fan $100,000 that the easter egg exists. Gunn's taunt should only make efforts to uncover it even stronger, even if it’s the kind of freeze-frame easter egg that can’t be seen with the naked eye.

One intrepid fan believed he finally discovered the long-lost big easter egg - unfortunately, it sounds like just another easter egg, not necessarily the easter egg. ComicBook.com posted a video on Wednesday of the fan speaking at a panel at the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Atlanta, where he addressed his theory with none other than Yondu himself, Michael Rooker. The fan felt strongly that, because his discovery foreshadows Avengers: Infinity War, that he had found the big one. The fan’s theory arose from a hard-to-spot detail in the scene where Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) brings the Infinity Stone to The Collector (Benicio del Toro).

Here’s how the fan described his discovery:

"When Star-Lord is trying to sell the cosmic cube, the infinity stone, there's the Ankh symbol, the symbol of the Brotherhood of the Ankh created by the In-Betweener in the comic books, which was the balance between the opposing entities the Lord Chaos and Master Order."

When the fan asks if his easter egg discovery is the big one, a flippant Rooker cryptically retorts, “You think so huh? Good thinking. Next!" It surely does not sound like this observant fan made the one big discovery that everyone is having trouble finding within the movie. The Brotherhood of the Ankh symbol is certainly an interesting find and a good piece of foreshadowing for the coming events in Infinity War, but not really the kind of easter egg that would be some kind of Earth-shattering reveal.

Perhaps Gunn will eventually spill the beans and reveal to the world what the big easter egg is, but that would be no fun. Fans are clearly willing to pore over the finest, most obscure details in Guardians of the Galaxy to finally crack the case. But based on Rooker’s reaction in the video, it sounds like fans are going to have to keep searching.
