Park patrons and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 fans are getting a chance to see Baby Groot up close and personal at Walt Disney World. While all of the characters have developed a loyal following since the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie in 2014, perhaps the most popular character with fans is the sentient, tree-like creature Groot, who is known for uttering, albeit in many different ways, the famous line, “I am Groot.”
Voiced by Vin Diesel, the character has a fair share of action figures modeled after him, and in conjunction with the release of Vol. 2, the offerings include a Groot Mr. Potato Head and dancing Baby Groot from Hasbro, and a Hot Toys full-size replica Baby Groot. As a way to help celebrate the Disney/Marvel Studio release of Vol. 2 at Walt Disney World, a life-size, animatronic version of Baby Groot was introduced Friday to help meet and greet patrons at the theme park’s Hollywood Studios.
A video posted by Inside the Magic shows Baby Groot (in a recreation of the scene where he plugs in the music at the beginning of Vol. 2) accompanied by Peter Quill/Star-Lord at a special Vol. 2 attraction. Fans, of course, already know how Baby Groot will respond to anything they say, but the chance to interact with the creature is an entertaining opportunity nonetheless. Check out the video above.
The Baby Groot meet and greet isn’t the first time Walt Disney World parkgoers have had a chance to interact with characters from Guardians of the Galaxy. In 2014, Star-Lord and Gamora appeared for a one-night-only event. You can see a video of that event below.
The Vol. 2 attraction promises to be around a bit longer, although Inside the Magic says Disney World haven’t specified exactly how long that will be yet. For the time being, the Vol. 2 attraction, which also features prop and set replicas from the latest MCU movie, is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Even after the event ends, Guardians will have a continued presence at Disney theme parks; the famous Twilight Zone-themed Tower of Terror attraction has undergone a thematic makeover into a Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Disneyland’s California Adventure Park. The ride began construction earlier this year with a projected summer opening. And, with the Guardians’ upcoming appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, as well as recently announced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the potential for other Walt Disney Parks attractions appear limitless.
