Guardians of the Galaxy Comic Con Header Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Confirmed For 2017 Release Date

Marvel Studios brought the last film installment in Phase II of its Shared Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Age of Ultron, to the 2014 Comic-Con in San Diego, along with the beginning chapter to Phase III, Ant-Man. However, there was curiously no presence for the studio’s next release, the cosmic superheroes adventure Guardians of the Galaxy, which arrive in theaters next week. There was, however, some news about the Guardians sequel.

Guardians co-writer and director James Gunn recently said that he would be back to captain the ship on Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - should they sequel happen, he added at the time (wink, wink) – and Guardians co-writer Nicole Perlman later confirmed that Gunn will be scripting the Guardians followup to boot (again, assuming it’s green-lit).

Well, we need wonder no longer, as the sequel was officially confirmed to be arriving in Summer 2017, via a video announcement by Gunn and Guardians star Chris Pratt that was shown to the Hall H crowd at the ‘Con. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will arrive on July 28th, 2017, to be exact. That may seem a bit like putting the cart before the horse, but in between early positive reviews and awareness for the first Guardians installment having reached a fever pitch after a month of heavy marketing, there’s reason to think that Marvel Studios isn’t being presumptuous about giving Guardians of the Galaxy 2 the official go-ahead.

There are still two more release dates ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 that have been reserved for as-yet unannounced Marvel Studios films: one in July 2016 and one in May 2017. Doctor Strange seems the most likely candidate to snag the remaining 2016 release date, seeing how it already has a director in Scott Derrickson and a script well into development. Marvel Studios’ plan moving forward is to release one established franchise installment, one new intellectual property film each year, which suggests that the May 2017 date won’t go to another sequel. (The Inhumans, maybe?) Thor 3 seems likely for November of that year, though.

  1. As a fan of the original cosmic run by Giffen, DnA and co, I feel weirdly proud

Has to be said its a great time to be a comic book fan!!

  2. Very disappointed that they left a two movie gap between Ant Man and gotg 2. Really thought at least Doctor Strange to be announced! Fingers crossed other films will be officially announced in the coming days.

    • I think they tried to sign someone for strange just before SDCC and it fell through so they held off saying anything

      • Was thinking the same thing..

      • doubtful that they held off due to not being able to sign a certain actor – seriously doubt they would cut it down to the wire
Marvel’s MO is to release new info with calculated precision and as I’ve said many times before they like to keep the fans guessing and even this is a new move – leaving a few questions mark in between confirmed movies – what other studio has done that before? none that I can think of – and it’s probably driving the internet crazy

by not releasing any major new info on the all the mystery films – they have plenty of new stories to push out throughout the year before AoU comes out. if they made a bunch of announcements in one day – that doesn’t give them much ammo for the next few years to be at the top of the news cycles – they’re in no rush to talk about movies still in the early stages of development – and it gives them plenty of options to change their minds in the order of which films come out when & why

it’s all connected and more importantly when it comes to the marketing – it’s all VERY VERY calculated & that’s how Marvel is at the top of the their game compared to DC or virtually any other studio -

        • In an interview couple of days before feige hinted in that they were deep in negotiations and if all goes well they would announce it at the con. Also Nerdist reported that if negotiations go well we would get an announcement at their conference too

There are very good reasons why everyone including the press expected a Doctor Strange announcement

  3. Cudos to Marvel studios!!! unlike WB and DC entertainment they have the balls to say “you know what Guardians is gonna do well enough for us to green light a sequel” As a DC fan I wish WB had marvel’s balls!

    • They do.

Don’t forget, they had Batman V Superman already worked on while they were filming Man Of Steel.

      • That’s not the same. They know BMvsSM will do great because they’re their biggest characters. This is backing a newcomer for a sequel without knowing how well the first one will do.

      • Hardly the same thing. And look how much it changed. MOS2 to DOJ. GOtG could still flop. BvS could be done using hand puppets and a Bay script and still make budget on the title alone.

    • It’s spelled “Kudos”.

  4. Um maybe you have missed The Justice League information lol

    • No I have not but was it announced officially? No so while Marvel is already in phase 2 and have dates planned for phase 3 WB has hinted at a justice league movie but there is not a confirmation yet.

      • Yea MartianManhunter86 I thought that another WB/DC movie for 2016 would had been announced, surprise us all with an official announcement for the first ever 2 DC movies in one year. I really thought it would be Shazam especially with all the news around Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

        either way…

I want my Black Panther cameo/movie/reference in a movie or something…

        • T’challa, I really really hope that one of the phase 3 marvel dates is for Black Panther. You deserve to be on big screen man!!!Kevin feige it is about darn time to bring black panther and wakanda to the big screen!

    • What Justice League information? Oh, and why would you need to start a sentence with “um”? You’re typing…. you have all the time in the world to think of what you’re going to say.

      • Um… it’s… no… um… must text brain say or forget train of think… phew… catfish?

  5. they announced ONE — new movie for 2017 – that’s it ONE. and it’s NOT Dr. Strange – or any new titles

EXACTLY as I predicted – all the focus was on AoU and Ant-Man and GotG
and people all over this site thought they were going to lay out all or many of the titles for the next few years – NOPE!

and many were SO convinced they were going to announce who would play Dr. Strange
may be now people will STOP getting so excited about rumors and guesses, etc

    • Probably not considering rumors and guesses are pretty much the bread and butter of this site. :)
…but there’s not really any harm in that anyway. If people are having fun talking about rumors and making their guesses then more power to ‘em, I say! Maybe a site like this isn’t really the one for you – and I genuinely mean that, you seem a little worked up about it.

      • you’re partially right – but I guess I’ld just like a little credit for calling it EXACTLY
and find if funny that people always get so worked up and convinced about things like casting rumors, etc – based on ZERO facts – not that I had facts to back up my opinions, but I at least try to think about stuff logically

and that more people would realize that every time a casting or other rumor news comes up – it is almost never accurate

        • Oh, I see where you’re coming from now, then! Yeah, we’re on the same page, it DOES get to be a bit much when every little rumor is treated as fact when oftentimes they’re debunked within hours. I enjoy a lot of the speculation myself, and looking forward to stuff is part of the fun, but I absolutely get you on that.

The hype is fun, but sometimes a bit of straightforward thinking is needed for ground things. I’m with you there.

    • and if it means anything I even called it WHEN Guardians of the Galaxy would come out – towards the later half of Phase 3.

      • Dude how many times are you gonna post that you called it exactly? I mean I am reading through all the comic con news and its literally you on every article bragging about your predictions. Geeze does someone need a hug

        • Lol…Was thinking the same thing Kyle. This dude must never be right about anything in life for him to get this excited.

Apparently he’s never heard of being humble.

        • every article ??? try 3 articles – 1 about Ant-Man, 1 about GotG and 1 about Avengers – ie. all related to Marvel and yes I and it’s virtually the same comment with a little variation — is that wrong or something ?

when you’re right about something is it so wrong to want a little credit or enjoy a few digital high fives?

may be I am overly gloating (happens – call me human) – but I guess I just feel it’s hilarious when Screenrant (and many many readers) were SO POSITIVE about all these expected announcements and casting news, etc – based on ZERO INFO other than rumors from other websites – that are almost always WRONG – and yet they continue to report them as if they’re practically facts – yeah yeah I know I can stop reading this site – but I don’t want to ok – I do enjoy it for the most part I just wish when others were wrong – THEY would eat a little humble pie and just admit it – rather than just pretending to ignore it

personally when I’m wrong mistaken or whatever else – I have no problem to quickly admit it – something like this:
hey we wrote all these articles about all these presumed announcements and we totally missed it!!
cause you know if they were right they’d be doing follow up articles, etc etc

and not just this site but others like Deadline, LatinoReview, NikkiFinke, Entertainment Weekly, etc (the main sources for Screenrant articles) or wherever else – they always seem so positive about rumors and then EVERY OTHER SITE jumps on their bandwagon of rumor based on ZERO FACTS and a rumor source that no one knows of and then when they’re wrong – they never seem that quick to say: WHOOPS – in classic Rick Perry style

and anyways isn’t the site called – screenRANT ? may be it’s healthy to occasionally have a RANT – try it you might like it :)
I guess I just think may be websites should at least TRY to stick to the old newspaper adage – stick to the facts and report that and if you don’t know the facts – find a source or a leak of your own (don’t rely so much on the competition) as not to jump on the bandwagon of false info or expectation

          • Cause of all your bragging, I just had to go back and read some of your stuff. Dude your words hold little merit.

You were bragging about being right about Marvel announcing 1 movie yet your words from another thread were, “I think they’ll only announce TWO-maybe 3 of these films and all the rest will remain mysteries.” Yet another thread you wrote, “EXACTLY as I predicted a few days ago. That they would not announce more than 1 or 2 films at most.”

I think your definition of the word “EXACTLY” might be different than others.

Also, bragging about guessing GotG 2 would be near end of phase 3? There are literally at least 5 other people who guessed this.

As for you bragging about knowing Avengers would be dying in this movie…Movie isn’t even out yet! So you can’t say, “and I called that EXACTLY. That 1 or MORE characters would be killed. …” I’ve seen other people post ideas that an Avenger could die and that Dr. Strange and/or SW could bring back a fallen avenger. You aren’t the only one to have this prediction.

I also noticed you stated that Lynda Carter was “half-Mexican” This is incorrect. Her mother is of Spanish and Mexican descent and her father is Irish, German, and English.

I also think its ironic you bash on people for their ideas or theories. Even telling one person, “…but try not to make assumptions based on zero facts or without any logical thinking. “ However, you say things like, “At some point the Avengers will get sent to an alternate dimension and/or encounter Kang and by then the science members are definitely going to step up to the plate.” What evidence is there that the Avengers will be sent to another dimension?

            • did I ever say I was the ONLY person posting on this site who guessed how the panel would turn out yesterday ?

and yes obviously the movie hasn’t come out yet but by the description of the footage yesterday – clearly that is the imagery that has been portrayed – Iron Man finding the Avengers decimated, dead and Joss Whedon has said “death death death”

and as for the Avengers being sent to another dimension – well that’s just from the comic books but it’s a safe bet it’ll happen eventually – you know the whole – expanding the cosmos thing …. and yes it’s a VERY likely Kang will come up eventually – do you really think they wouldn’t want to introduce KANG ??

              • Above, you did say, “personally when I’m wrong mistaken or whatever else – I have no problem to quickly admit it”

Yet you are wrong about a few things and have yet to admit you were wrong. And changing a previous post and reposting it in a corrected way and adding in the word, “you choose to ignore it and be pedantic about a trivial detail?” doesn’t seem like you are having “no problem to quickly admit it.” It seems you are being bitter.

If you want to keep bragging then at least also have the gumption to admit the things you were wrong about without being bitter are proud.

And if you weren’t patting yourself on the back so much on various threads then this would not have been an issue.

Just as Kyle said. You have some really cool theories but don’t be so harsh on other people for their theories and don’t act above them. Cause a lot of your posts come off as that way.

In the end, I do hope Kang comes into the MCU. There was a rumor within the last year (I know how you hate rumors) that RDJ was trying to get Mel Gibson a role. I think Gibson would be awesome as Kang or Baron Zemo.

                • so you’re saying I was “wrong” about Linda Carter being half-Latina vs a “quarter” Latina or something so specific as ethnic “break up” – uh okay – I was wrong didn’t realize I need to be so specific about an actresses ethnic background to avoid being called “wrong” as well as anything else you commented (even if I might disagree on the minute specifics) – as they can be argued ad nasueum (not really interested in going back and forth with someone like that)

fyi – yes sometimes it’s easier to just basically copy and paste a reply I may have put on a previous post with some minor changes or pertinent thoughts – as it’s quicker and easer (plus I don’t assume other readers read every single article – I don’t) and I don’t assume that other readers will read every single comment below an article – so reposting a similar comment in multiple articles – is really not about “boasting” or whatever

so how about just answer my question re: Doctor Strange – instead of being so focused on right or wrong?
ie. debating something of merit and significance

            • so rather than try answering one of my past questions from a previous post – you choose to ignore it and be pedantic about a trivial detail? let me re-phrase the question:

Linda Carter – the original Wonder Woman …. is PART Spanish-Mexican (and has never had an issue with identifying as being part-Latina)!! no one ever had a problem with that — so why can’t Dr. Strange be played by a Latino actor who fits the role just as much as anyone else and can easily portray “white” if that’s even important??

NOTE: I’m NOT saying to change Dr. Strange’s ethnicity or anything about the character – just to open casting options and all these rumors to NOT just white males – who already dominate all the Marvel films (and any others)

Benjamin Bratt would be an EXCELLENT choice – watch his film Pinero – about tragic poet and playwright Miguel Pinero – & then give an opinion – here’s a link from a scene in Pinero: http://tinyurl.com/pineroclip1
here’s Bratt sporting a goatee – spitting image of Doc Strange: http:tinyurl.com/bbrattgoateepic1
              – google if the links if they don’t work

Nestor Carbonell, Pedro Pascal, Edgar Ramirez, Oscar Isaac (now in Star Wars), Rodrigo Santoro, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Santiago Cabrera … the list goes on or heaven forbid – … may be even a relatively unknown actor – the same way Thor was cast

so why can’t Dr. Strange be played by a talented Latino actor who fits the role just as much as anyone else??

              • I think you are missing the overall point. I don’t want to answer the Dr. Strange. Stop side stepping the major issue. I am proving that you didn’t call things exactly when it came to Comic Con. Or when it came to Lynda Carters ethnicity. I’m also calling you out for your hypocricy.

You still can’t admit where you lied and that you are wrong without taking it personal. So you are the kind of person who wants a bunch of credit but when you are wrong you don’t want to admit it in a mature way. You want to brag everywhere that you were right about so much but you weren’t.

You wanted to brag, and yes, boast on multiple threads. Not to mention there are many times you have gotten on people’s cases for their theories or excitement for some of the rumors because, as you said, try “…to make assumptions based on zero facts or without any logical thinking.” And like I pointed out, you too have posted assumptions without zero fact. Why do you get to judge people’s opinions so harshly but then throw around your own thoughts and opinions?

Both your “higher than thou” attitude mixed with your bragging made you look like a punk. So I decided to go check things you’ve said in the past and call you out.

In the end you bragged, “I guess I’d just like a little credit for calling it EXACTLY.” Which is funny cause you didn’t call it exactly at all and you cant admit it can you? In one place you said 2-3 movies would be announced. In another you said 1- 2 movies. So you weren’t exact were you?

          • Guest, I agree with you on allot of your opinion’s and enjoy reading your theories, just ease up on the self gratification. It would be one thing if you said it once on each article, but there are multiple posts even on this article about you congratulating yourself and multiple posts on other articles as well.

By all means keep up the good work, just don’t sing your own praises so much and your views will start to carry more weight and respected as someone who knows there s***. Rt now it comes across as arrogant

            • point taken – see I’m not above taking criticism :)

              • Do what you do bro. That’s the nature of the beast, we can say anything online. What ever we want. Personally I’m just not sure who you’re addressing, SR staff or commenters?

It’s as if someone said your predictions would be wrong and you returned to let them know what’s up! Haha.

But hell, speculation and prediction and assumption is all part of the game when it comes to Marvel movies. I love it.

BTW, I ALSO predicted GotG 2 for 2017, though I assumed the May date.
I’m still expecting it to be focused on the Inhumans tho.

                • well I’ld say I was directing previous comments at both SR writers and other commenters (not all of course) and not to anyone in specific – I’m not going to go and “research” the past comments of other readers

and I guess with all these assumed announcements – that never came – just makes me laugh how all these rumors article generate such fervent debate … all for nothing – just smoke with no fire
and when I try to present what I think are logical explanations – ie. for them NOT choosing any of the actors so far “rumored” – and many other readers seem to think I’m the crazy one or something

as I’ve said before – when it comes to casting news – there are VERY few people especially with Marvel movies who are actually involved in the decision making and dollars to donuts all the people starting “rumors” are nowhere near that inner circle – why does everyone find it so hard to believe that?

anyways – to each their own, may everyone enjoy peace and happiness in their life and good health :)

                  • on a side note as far as Marvel related – and may be I’ll be 100% wrong (stating in adv)

here’s a prediction of some possible actress names that will either start popping up as rumors and/ or one of them will just be announced in the next few weeks or months for being cast as Mockingbird (and my guess is after a year or two on AoS as 1st a recurring character then series regular she’ll eventually transition to either a solo TV series or straight to the films:

                    Margot Robbie
                    Eliza Dushku
                    Laura Vandervoort
                    Summer Glau
                    Minka Kelly
                    Tracy Spiridakos
                    Dreama Walker
                    Sarah Jones (Alcatraz tv show)
and I’m sure a few others I’m sure

some of these actresses I’ld consider better choices than others – but all could likely do great as Mockingbird – who in addition to all her fighting skills is also a bio-chemist or something like that (don’t crucify me if I’m too lazy to google it right now)

                    • Gosh do you not hear yourself? You are like someone with split personality.

You literally just complained the words, “just makes me laugh how all these rumors article generate such fervent debate … all for nothing”

Yet you are on Screen rant gossiping to the world wide web of readers about potential rumors and coming up with your own theories.

I don’t get how you find it funny that people speculate on rumors from articles yet its ok for you to speculate by creating gossip/rumor

                    • Yea, I’m gonna go ahead and say that NONE of those actresses have a chance at a role in the future of the MCU, except maybe Dushku or Glau. If they hire Tracy Spiridakos for ANYTHING, I’ll boycott. She is horrid as an actor.

BTW, listing a bunch of women with ties to Whedon, and then following it by saying ‘I’m sure a few others I’m sure’ doesn’t give you the right to come back the next time they hire a female role and say ‘I CALLED IT EXACTLY RIGHT, WHEN I SAID I’M SURE THEY’LL HIRE SOMEONE!’

    • and if it means anything I even called it WHEN Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would come out – towards the later part of Phase 3 and likely in 2017

  6. Should I be surprised? Should I be surprised?
I’m NOT… hahaha I have confidence this will be announced :D
I sure thought it will take the May 2018 release though, with Zoe Saldana’s schedule and all…

  7. ONE new reveal…? Bummer. Awesome it’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2, though. Five more days!

    • I guess they have to save some announcements for later and next year.

  8. thats it ? only 1 announcement gardian of the galaxy 2. theres 9 solo movies before avenger 3 and they only annouce 1 . talk about a weak comic con. and still no annoucement from dc .

    • Still though, hard to argue that with Wonder Woman’s costume officially revealed and THAT teaser trailer, DC won Comic-Con for a second year in a row with the exact same film.

      • “Won Comic Con”???

You have a very weird idea about the spirit of this convention and what it really is about… This is not a football match so stop acting like a hooligan…

      • How is a 30 second teaser of 2 people looking at each other and a pic winning, when marvel showed far more footage including both new aveners in actual… you know….action?

      • Dazz,

I am not gonna pretend that I know you all that well, but I think I have seen enough ONLY in the last week:

        1. Article on A:AoU leaked plot details. A guy named Dyson says out of the blue: “this movie isn’t gonna be anything compared to Batman V Superman”. Someone else calls him out, in light of his trollish comment, and says “LOL, DC fanboy alert!”. What did you do? Came in the troll’s rescue… Trolls don’t deserve defending regardless of their colour. They deserve to be ignored.

        2. Article on A:AoU posters. Very positive tone and enthusiasm in the comments section and what did you do? You came by to say that you didn’t like the Avengers all that much. Do you take issue with people being enthusiastic about that movie? Does it bother you so much that you feel the need to rain on their parade? You are very much entitled to dislike that movie but the way you choose how and when to manifest it says something about you.

        3. Article on Shazam casting. Again you can’t help youself and you make an unsolicited reference to RDJ pointing out he was behind the Rock in 2013 in gross box office (like if we all are idiots that don’t know he got there with four movies – instead of one like RDJ – and riding on the success of an established franchise like Fast and Furious with an existing fan base preceding him). Why do you feel the childish need of establishing comparisons, misleading in that case I must add, instead of commenting on the news on their own merits?

        4. Article on GotG 2. You say that DC won Comic Con with Wonder Woman’s pic and the teaser for the movie. One more time you choose a Marvel article to brag about your preferences with the obvious intention of perpetuating the stupid Marvel vs DC debate. You also show zero knowledge about the true intention of Comic Con, as the origin spirit is precisely to congratulate ourselves and celebrate the progress of ALL comics. No winning or losing terms. That’s why I purposely chose to quote the “won Comic Con” bit, ignoring the subject, because that statement would be equally wrong no matter what the subject was.

So basically you have zero credibility as you behave like a kid. You are on fire with your crusade and are beyond saving I am afraid.

I like the Rock, I like the new batsuit and I like the new pic of Wonder Woman. I also like the poster of A:AoU and that’s why you won’t see me trolling around or picking sides. Grow up.

      • Dazz,

I am not gonna pretend that I know you all that well, but I think I have seen enough ONLY in the last week:

        1. Article on A:AoU leaked plot details. A guy named Dyson says out of the blue: “this movie isn’t gonna be anything compared to Batman V Superman”. You came in the troll’s rescue… Trolls don’t deserve defending regardless of their colour. They deserve to be ignored.

        2. Article on A:AoU posters. Very positive tone and enthusiasm in the comments section and what did you do? You came by to say that you didn’t like the Avengers all that much without anything prompting that reaction. Do you take issue with people being enthusiastic about that movie? Does it bother you so much that you feel the need to rain on their parade? You are very much entitled to dislike that movie, but the way you choose how and when to manifest it says something about you.

        3. Article on Shazam casting. Again you can’t help yourself and you make an unsolicited reference to RDJ pointing out he was behind the Rock in 2013 in gross box office (like if we all are unaware that he got there with four movies – instead of one like RDJ – and riding on the success of an established franchise like Fast and Furious with an existing fan base preceding him). Why do you feel the childish need of establishing automatic comparisons, misleading in that case I must add, instead of commenting on the news on their own merits?

No winning or losing terms here. That’s why I purposely chose to quote the “won Comic Con” bit, ignoring the subject, because that statement would be equally wrong no matter what the subject was.

So basically you have zero credibility and you behave like a kid. You are on fire with your “crusade” this week and are beyond saving I am afraid.

From my side I like the Rock, I like Affleck in the new batsuit and I like the new pic of Wonder Woman. I also like the poster of A:AoU and the details tha have surfaced about that movie. That’s why you won’t see me trolling around or picking sides. Grow up.

        • Cheers to you my Friend.

        • “Trolls don’t deserve defending regardless of their colour…” !?
          Hah! Kurt you’re a G!

I love this comment. Not necessarily because it’s a response to Dazz, but just because it needs to be said period.
Troll numbers have been up in recent months and it’s irritating because they know exactly what to say to just destroy a mood. Some do it on purpose, while others are just d0uchebags who have no manners and don’t know any better.

I recently “trolled” for the first time during the Arrow/Flash/DCCU ‘will they, won’t they’ discussion, and I felt like an a$$hole for it later. (Apologies to Arrow and Flash fans).

This site is one of the best when it comes to friendly, cordial conversations and I hope it continues this way. I honestly look forward to the open discussion threads! Haha.

BTW I know your tag is Nightcrawler, but I’m just gonna keep calling ya Kurt.

And Dazz, you’re a very intelligent, articulate and interesting person, and a bit of a SR vet. Play nice bro!

  9. The latest CGI comic book adaptation is going to be turned into a multi-film series. And in other news the sky is blue and ice is cold.

  10. May 5, 2017 – New IP
    July 28, 2017 – Guardians of the Galaxy 2
    November 3, 2017 – Thor 3
    May 4, 2018 – Iron Man 4
July 6, 2018 – New IP or Sequel
    November 2, 2018 – The Inhumans
    May 3, 2019 – The Avengers 3 (Unannounced)

    Called it.

    • Feige did say during the panel (or after in a round table thing, not sure) that he wants Avengers to have 3 year cycles, meaning Avengers 3 could happen in 2018 like I said a few days back.

      • this is the thing isn’t it? we’re assuming Avengers 3 will be in 2019 but maybe it’ll go in May 2018, keeping to the 3-year schedule, and the extra spots in 2018 are just them getting a headstart on phase 4?

but honestly I’m hoping that’s not the case and we get a two-film arc for Infinity Gauntlet. July 2018 and May 2019, with Inhumans bridging the gap in November 2018.

    • May 5, 2017 The Incredible Hulk 2

    • I feel like Inhumans would be a movie to start the next phase. Here’s my ever changing guess:

      Phase 3:

      July 17, 2015 – Ant-Man
May 6, 2016 – Captain America: Enemy of the State (Black Panther crossover)
      July 8, 2016 – Doctor Strange
May 5, 2017 – The Man Called Nova
July 28, 2017 – Guardians of the Galaxy: Annihilation
      Nov 3, 2017 – Thor: Surtur Rising
      July 6, 2018 – The Avengers: Infinity

      Phase 4:

      Nov 2, 2018 – Inhumans
      May 3, 2019 – Planet Hulk

      • they won’t make a Planet Hulk film given Banner spends 99% of it as the Hulk. it’s much more likely that we’ll see Hulk in a GOTG film at some point, which could work nicely.

I hope Nova doesn’t happen. we don’t need more white dudes in suits. Captain Marvel (with Carol Danvers OR Monica Rambeau) would be perfect. gotta get Black Panther in there somewhere, too.

also they have May 2018 booked, so Avengers will either go there or May 2019. unless my dream comes true and they do Infinity War as a two-parter with Inhumans inbetween.

      • here’s what I think we’ll see

        Phase 3:

        July 17, 2015 – Ant-Man
        May 6, 2016 – Captain America 3
        July 8, 2016 – Doctor Strange
        May 5, 2017 – Black Widow
        July 28, 2017 – Guardians of the Galaxy 2
        Nov 3, 2017 – Thor 3
        May 4, 2018 – Avengers: Infinity War

        Phase 4:

        July 6, 2018 – Black Panther
        Nov 2, 2018 – The Inhumans
        May 3, 2019 – Ant-Man 2

        • Umm… there is no May 4, 2018 slot or did I miss something?

For someone complaining about not having enough black heroes, you sure are not caring about the lack of female lead heroes and you go suggest a Black Widow solo film; the most overused female hero/only female hero currently.
At least recommend someone new like a Ms.Marvel solo movie.

Looking at the now, there might not be a Planet Hulk movie but by demand over the course of 5 years Marvel can grow an even bigger pair of balls by 2019 and greenlight a Planet Hulk movie.

Plus do you even read the comics? Hulk has never teamed with the Guardians. The entire idea sounds forced. The Guardians wouldn’t be able to calm him, he’ll punch a hole in their ship. At least with Iron Man teaming up made sense bcuz he can have a suit that let’s him breath in space.

Also, the reason why I’m saying Nova is bcuz he’s my favorite super hero. Like all comic fans, we’d like to see our favorite heroes on screen and if you don’t like Richard Rider then there’s Sam Alexsander. Sam would be the only Spanish hero in the MCU.

          • you missed something, there is a May release date.

and that’s not what I *WANT* to see, that’s what I *THINK* we’ll see.

I already said I want Infinity War to be 2 films and to get a Carol Danvers film as well. I don’t mind Black Widow being overexposed because ultimately she is a woman and little girls can look up to her which is the whole point.

and re: Hulk in GOTG, I take your point, I’m just thinking of ways they could do Hulk in space and have it work.

            • Yeah, I checked. That’s sick there is gonna be now 3 movies for 2018. Ms.Marvel should be one of those movies.

I doubt they’ll give Black Widow a solo film. Agents of Shield might be introducing Mar-Vell, he can spin off into a movie starring Ms.Marvel as lead. Her solo film seems to be being built too.

It sounds like you want to capture the glory of Planet Hulk. Hulk in space wasn’t the glory to that story. It was how Hulk pretty much played out as Spartacus and then ultimately ruled over a planet.

Plant Hulk to be in Phase 4 would be incredible bcuz then Avengers 4 can be World War Hulk. Also, when people go see a Hulk movie, they don’t go to the movie wanting to see puny Banner, they want to see Hulk. Marvel will come to the light, come Phase 4.

  11. Have to ask this since it’s on my mind.

Which of the SR team got to review Guardians and who got the most upset at not getting the gig?

  12. Just as a point of interest, everybody go check out the GotG Rotten Tomatoes page:

    http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/guardians_of_the_galaxy/

Currently the movie has a 100% rating. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. Not one reviewer disliked it.

It’ll probably go down a bit once it’s officially released and more reviews start coming in, but for the moment this is a pretty impressive accomplishment.

    • I like that, pretty cool achievement right there.

Has any other film been able to say that before general release or is this fairly unique?

Not that I find the site a credible source regarding my own personal opinion but it’s a cool feat nevertheless.

  13. Considering the first film was a great success at its release, it’s obvious that they’d put out a second one. I just wish they hadn’t waited so long to reveal it since the Guardians of the Galaxy is already out and has definitely got good reviews and high box office ratings and definitely deserves a sequel.

    • But, it isn’t out, and it has no box office rating yet…It has critic ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, but no box office score. There have been advanced screenings, and the premiere, but it doesn’t release until this Thursday night.

  14. YES!

  15. Good news to wake up to on Sunday morning, sweet!

  16. I’ve been following the production for Guardians of the Galaxy 1 for two years. Now I gotta follow the production for Guardians 2 for three years? Exhausted… However great news!!!!! I hope Magus is the center villain.

  17. Black Panther and Hulk 2 for 2017
The Inhumans and Antman 2 for 2018
    Called it

  18. 2018 Great Lakes Avengers

  19. Shouldn’t Marvel make sure GotG performs well at the box office before announcing a sequel? Rave reviews from critics and social media buzz along with the Marvel name doesn’t guarantee that people will PAY to see it. If this movie under-performs Marvel will have egg on its face and everyone will enjoy hoisting the studio on its own petard. This movie is a big gamble; they ought to wait until they get solid box office numbers from unbiased reliable sources before crowing and announcing sequels.

    • Chances are, that’s not the case. This movie simply having Marvel’s name/logo attached, and the team-up premise, almost guarantees critical success. Even Ant-Man will perform well at the box office, and look what it’s gone through!
