James Gunn has confirmed that Glenn Close had a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, but it didn't make it into the final version of the film. The sequel to the smash hit Guardians of the Galaxy proved that the popularity of this space-faring team wasn't a one-off, with critical reviews that were almost as good, and box office figures significantly better than the original. Now, of course, fans are already looking forward to the Guardians' appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, as well as the upcoming third installment - which will reportedly set up another decade of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

While everyone looks to the future for the Guardians', however, it seems that there is still plenty to be discovered about Vol 2. Bloopers and set photos give a little glimpse into the making of the movie, while the director has been answering questions about the film on social media - and revealed a cameo that didn't make the final cut.

Gunn, who directed both Guardians of the Galaxy and Vol. 2 and is set to helm the third installment, asked for questions on Twitter today while in a waiting room. One fan asked if Close's character from Guardians of the Galaxy was cut from the sequel, and Gunn confirmed that she did originally have a cameo that didn't make it onto the big screen.

This is not the first time that Close has been mentioned as having a part in the sequel. During Screen Rant's set visit, Gunn claimed that Close was shooting a scene for Vol. 2, though he didn't say much more than that. Close played Nova Prime in the original Guardians, the leader of the Nova Corps - the military force of the Nova Empire, who were at war with the Kree for over a thousand years. In the first movie, she works with the Guardians to save the planet Xandar from Ronan (Lee Pace), before taking the Orb (aka. Infinity Stone) into her custody for safekeeping.

While it would have been fantastic to see Nova Prime back on screen in the second film, the sequel isn't lacking due to her absence. Gunn confirms that all that was filmed was a small cameo, rather than larger scenes, so it's probable that Nova Prime would have simply popped up at some point to talk to the Guardians, rather than doing anything more this time around. However, Gunn does not clarify exactly what the cameo was, so it's always possible that she was doing something else entirely - and unless the cut scene makes it into a special edition or behind-the-scenes feature, we may never know exactly what part Nova Prime had to play in Vol. 2.
