James Gunn says that some fans have come close to finding the super secret Easter egg in Guardians of the Galaxy, but there's another one hiding in the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. One thing that fans love about the Guardians of the Galaxy movies is the abundance of references to Marvel lore. Details of these Easter eggs can be found on countless websites, however one Easter egg has somehow gone unnoticed, even after three years. The director now acknowledges that the Easter egg has been partially discovered, but there's another one that fans have yet to find in the sequel.

In 2014, Marvel Studios released Guardians of the Galaxy, a superhero comedy film based in outer space. The movie had a cast full of established Marvel characters, many of which being obscure characters that most moviegoers weren't familiar with at the time, such as Yondu, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot. The film was filled with both subtle and direct references to even more Marvel characters and storylines that many fans missed. Gunn claimed that the movie contained one Easter egg that no fan has yet to find, and has shot down many theories on what the Easter egg is.

In a Facebook Live Q&A, Gunn was asked to finally reveal the hidden Easter egg. Gunn says when the entire egg is uncovered, he will confirm it to fans. Gunn goes on to say that some fans have come extremely close, and even admits that one Youtube user, MT, found only part of it. Gunn also says that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 contains another well-hidden Easter egg, and that this one will be even more difficult to find.

Last week, ScreenCrush reported that they believed the final Easter egg revealed the origin of the Frost Giants. The theory was that a Frost Giant's face can be seen in the scene where the Collector tells the Guardians about the Celestials.

Though the theory seems plausible, Gunn's mention of Youtube user MT suggests that another theory struck closer to the truth. MT poses that the hidden Easter egg points to the existence of Eternity, the embodiment of time and one of the most powerful entities in the Marvel Universe. In the comic books, Eternity is a humanoid figure, but his body has the appearance of the cosmos. Stars and galaxies can be seen in Eternity's body, as if looking at Eternity is like looking into the universe. MT claims that the insides of Eternity can be seen when Star-Lord hallucinates about his mother. The cosmic entity is supposedly mentioned again on the walls of a temple on planet Morag.

Eternity has yet to be confirmed in the MCU, however, the theory does shed light on a scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 where Star-Lord uses Ego's powers and claims to have seen "eternity." It's possible that James Gunn and Marvel have been setting up Eternity since Guardians of the Galaxy with the intention of giving the character a major presence in the MCU at a later point in time.
