Marvel Studios has unveiled the official release date and details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on home media. The film kicked off the summer movie season earlier this year and proved to be another massive hit for the MCU, bringing in $858 million worldwide. Though the reviews were not quite as enthusiastic as its predecessor (read ours), many felt Guardians 2 was another entertaining and heartfelt entry into the mega franchise, fueled by director James Gunn's trademark sense of humor and another infectiously catchy soundtrack. Simply put, fans couldn't wait to bring Baby Groot and the gang home.

Last month, word started to spread that the Vol. 2 Blu-ray would be available in late August, and those reports turned out to be true. Today, Marvel released a trailer advertising the home media release of the latest Guardians movie, revealing it will come out on digital August 8 before the physical disc hits store shelves a couple weeks later on August 22. You can watch the preview in the space above.

The video also includes some information regarding the bonus features that will be included. Unsurprisingly, there is a collection of deleted scenes and a gag reel. Since Guardians is a property known for its comedy, there are surely several hilarious outtakes of scenes and lines gone awry. And as we just learned yesterday, the Blu-ray will also contain a Gunn-directed music video for the song "Inferno," performed by the one and only David Hasselhoff. That will certainly be a sight to behold.

It'll be interesting what the "much more" alluded to in the trailer consists of. It wouldn't be out of the question for there to be a handful of brief featurettes covering the main characters, with interview sound bites discussing their portrayals and motivations in the sequel. Fans will be hoping for some kind of sneak peak at what's in store for Marvel's future. By the time the Guardians come to invade your living room, Thor: Ragnarok will be three short months away, and Black Panther is also right around the corner. By now, several viewers are aware Star-Lord and friends will return for next summer's Avengers: Infinity War, so there possibly could be some teases for the monumental crossover event as well.

In any case, it's fitting that audiences were able to start summer 2017 with the Guardians and essentially end the season with the same movie. This year saw many high-profile disappointments, but Vol. 2 was one of the rare bright spots, so there will likely be much interest in checking the film out again on home theater systems. Plus, Guardians 2 is the first time a Disney-era MCU installment is getting a 4K release, so the disc will be a must-have for any fan's ever-growing collection.
