Bounties can be a fun aspect of playing Grand Theft Auto Online, and bounty hunting can be a decent way to make money as well. However, players can also have a bounty set on themselves, and surviving the bounty can net nice rewards (and even an achievement or trophy). So, how long does a bounty last in GTA Online before it's removed?

Hunting for bounties isn't as lucrative as Heists, but it can be a fun way to mix things up when players are trying to make money in GTA Online. PvE bounty hunting is available from Maude Eccles, but PvP is where the real fun and challenges are. A player can even incur a bounty on themselves in a number of ways, including stealing a car or killing an NPC. Players can even set a bounty on others by calling Lester, who takes a $1,000 commission from whatever bounty the player sets (up to $10,000).

In terms of bounties, it can be pretty easy to get one set on a character. Other players and GTA Online's NPCs can set the bounty, so knowing how to get it removed is very helpful. In order for the bounty to be removed from a player, though, a certain amount of time in-game needs to have passed.

In order for the bounty to be removed in Grand Theft Auto Online, 24 hours will have to pass in-game. This comes out to around 48 minutes real-time. However, if players enter a Mission or a Safe House, the timer pauses - so simply waiting for 48 minutes inside a Safe House isn't going to work. Instead, players will have to be both cautious and clever during this time if they want to avoid being killed by another player.

Outliving a bounty has its own rewards as well. Once the necessary time has passed, the player with the bounty removed will be able to collect the payout money in GTA Online for themselves. If it's their first time surviving a bounty, the player will also get an achievement or trophy called "Run Like the Wind." So, while surviving a bounty may not always be easy, there's at least some rewards involved.

Getting a bounty at some point in GTA Online is pretty common, so knowing how long it takes to survive is key. Bounties last for 24 hours in-game (48 minutes real-time) in Grand Theft Auto Online, but once the bounty is removed, players can collect the reward themselves.
