Multiple sources claiming inside information have rebuked the notion that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in the early stages of development. Recently, a report provided by Kotaku described how the working conditions at Rockstar Games have been improving following the reveal that some employees had been working hundred-hour work weeks, and in that report there was a small mention that the next game Rockstar was working on was Grand Theft Auto 6, but that it was only in the very early stages of development.

Since the last entry in the GTA franchise, Grand Theft Auto V, released nearly seven years ago, players have been waiting a long time to return to Rockstar's satirical crime world. In the interim they have been coming up with elaborate Grand Theft Auto 6 theories about what the next entry could possibly contain, including location ideas, possible side missions, and franchise character who could return. However, after hearing that the game was only in its "early stages" many fans were not only upset, but confused.

Now, as recently reported on by CCN, one person who the Grand Theft Auto community seems to consider reliable has rebuked those claims, with that user stating on GTAForums that Grand Theft Auto 6 is "60% to 70% done from what I have heard." The user, who goes by the forum handle Fun 2 and the Twitter username TezFun2, said that Kotaku's report of the game being in only the early stages must have been a mistake, because "I'm positive it already passed the early stages of development, there's no way it's still stuck on that stage." Check out the message the alleged insider posted to Twitter below:

There is no evidence besides TezFun2's statements on GTAForums and Twitter that the game is past the early development stage, but it does seem unlikely considering how long it's been since Grand Theft Auto V was released. However, just like Michael De Santa's voice actor said recently, no information about Grand Theft Auto 6 should be believed unless it comes directly from Rockstar themselves.

After March 2020, which many fans in the Grand Theft Auto community thought would contain an announcement, trailer, or release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, many members were disappointed to hear that the game isn't as near completion as they had hoped. While there is no way to know exactly what state the game is currently in without an official announcement, fans should rest easy in knowing that at least Grand Theft Auto 6 is definitely being worked on, as opposed to Rockstar's other franchises like Agent which may never see the light of day again.
