Warner Bros. sent Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively to WonderCon this weekend to show off 10 minutes of brand new Green Lantern footage in an attempt to sway fans/moviegoers back on their side after a somewhat disappointing first trailer.

This came after news that they would be holding off on the second Green Lantern trailer until Thor hits theaters in May so they could continue to finalize special effects. A 4-minute version of the footage did release online however, and now Warner Bros. is using some of the footage for their first two Green Lantern TV Spots.

Below we have the two 30-second ads as well as a few recently released Green Lantern posters. Make sure to read our full recap of the WonderCon footage & presentation.

The first poster is a new wide-shot Green Lantern banner which features a significantly more detailed CGI costume for Reynolds and a very cool background depicting the planet Oa. Click to enlarge:

Next is the first poster featuring Carol Ferris (Blake Lively). The official version has yet to release – this is from a photo of the poster stand at WonderCon”

The new trailers, and especially the 4-minutes of new WonderCon footage have done an excellent job of re-raising excitement for DC Entertainment’s introduction of Green Lantern to mainstream moviegoing audiences and we can applaud Warner Bros. with their work at WonderCon.

The characters look significantly improved and the intense special effects caused by the ring’s powers and otherworldly locations look much better as well. Even Reynolds’ “costume” looks better than before and the footage lets us really buy into his take on the character Hal Jordan as a likable protagonist.

Green Lantern is directed by Martin Campbell and also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Geoffrey Rush, Tim Robbins and Angela Bassett.

What are your thoughts on Green Lantern after seeing the latest videos?

Green Lantern hits 2D and 3D theaters on June 17, 2011.

  1. The real difference on the costume is that it seems to glow a lot more than on the first trailer. All looks spot on to me.

  2. Looks great! Can’t wait for it to come out!

  3. Well the costume is looking WAY better! I guess this is the positive side to CG it can be greatly improved with the right amount of time! Which they are taking properly.

It will look amazing on the silver screen!

  4. The mask still looks HORRIBLE, they should’ve went without it.

    • I half agree. Horrible mask still. It should look a darker green not this light bright version.

      • Check the wonder-con trailer it is much darker there.

  5. Not to sound too corny or whatever, but does anyone else get chills when he says the oath? Other than that stupid angry sounding “Geen Lantern’s Might” at the end. Which actually sounds like it is from another person saying it.

    • I kinda liked the added bass at the end, haha. Makes him sound more confident in the oath. Yes, it was so epic hearing it…

  6. Whats this I hear about “Parallax” as a villain in here? Maybe I am misreading what is being said by some, but how can that be possible?

    • You didn’t see the Wonder-con trailer?

      He’s in there

      • I must be pretty far out of the loop then. Last time I checked Parallax WAS hal Jordan.

        • Do you mean in terms of comics? Check out GL:Rebirth

    • Haha that’s kinda funny, but understandable.

Yeah, when Hal Jordan came back from the death around five years ago, they explained away Parallax as an “entity of fear” that possessed Hal Jordan, thereby making him “evil.”

Hal still feels guilty about it all though, as he felt he (well, he did) failed as a Green Lantern by letting Parallax creep into him through the fear that grew in him like a cancer after seeing Coast City destroyed. Fear that he was expected to conquer as a GL in the first place.

It may seem kind of lame that they did that but all in all it was the beginning of a very nicely done expansion of the Green Lantern universe that pretty much made the comics wildly popular again, maybe for the first time.

      • That has got to be the stupidest thing I have heard in a while. The Parallax story from way back (god I feel old saying that) was one of my favorite stories…..pretty much ever.

Sigh…..why must they always mess with the classics?

I am not saying the story itself was bad as I have never read it, but the concept of that story is just completely foolish in my opinion (I know Archaeon will yell at me for saying that).

  7. Time is running out to fix that craptastic mask! It needs to be turned from a piece of green chrome cast from a skull (highly defined orbital ridges look creepy and out of place) to a matte finish with MUCH softer and less defined edges.

  8. lovin these tv spots!!

  9. From what I’ve seen in the Wonder-con trailer it seems the first time he wears the ring the suit is just formed to cover him, then over time as he gets more experience with using the ring it would adapt and change. First it looks kinda like rubber, then it starts to glow and then lastly the mask looks slightly more trimmed and the suit just looks more like armor that emits and aura of green energy. Re-watch the trailer and tell me you don’t get that from it lol.
