@Kevin

Still going to post my review of it whenever I get enough time to write it.

And you don't have to kill anyone to get it, if you can find some way to contact me outside the site (via email or whatever) I will email you a copy of said script. I'll also throw in the Plastic Man film script and the aborted Superman/Batman film script if you're interested, bro. :-D

If you want to contact me, you could shoot Vic or one of the moderators here at SR an email that includes your email address and maybe your name, and if they're in a good mood they'll shoot it to me and then I'll have your contact info and will gladly send you the script and share with you how I obtained it. :-)

(Although I'm not sure how comfortable Vic or whomever will be about you giving them your email info and then sending it to me so we can talk - they have done it before for another SR friend of mine, so it doesn't hurt to ask :) )

And of course you could always post your email adddress here in this thread but I don't know if you're comfortable leaving it on a webpage accessible worldwide. :-)

Cheers! :-D

Agreed, Kevin!

I've got the script, and it's pretty good, you'll be happy to hear that Sinestro is a major player but isn't a villain in the film, the Hal/Sinestro relationship is pretty well establsihed, and Sinestro is one of the best written characters in the script. They set it up for a sequel perfectly. I love the end scene. :-D

BTW, all, I'm STILL gonna post my spoilerific review of the script sometime, as soon as I get some time to write the darn thing. :-)

@KEL
Saving Sinestro might be an iffy choice. He was Hal's first mentor in the Corps after all and that builds even more pathos when he is expelled from the Corps. I think what makes Sinestro such a viable villain is that he was "The Greatest" until Hal came along. He was doing what he thought was righ and, in his mind, was punished for upholding the laws of the Guardians. Having him not be introduced until the sequel....I just think it would be a bad call.
Definately save him for later in the movie, but the mentor/student relationship needs to be establised during the first film of the franchise. It's pivotal to the whole Green Lantern mythology.

Great news, IMO! I can't wait. Hopefully they get a Flash film going (Barry Allen, origin, nuff said).

My concerns about the project: Is Greg Berlanti really capable of directing such and epic? He seems to have little to no experience, but I wish him the best. Getting someone else might distort his vision, if the script that he co-wrote was so good, then it would probably be best for him to bring his vision to life. I just wish he had more experience for my peace of mind.

I'm SO glad that they decided to make the movie about the REAL Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, instead of one of those posers who will remain nameless for the moment. :p

@ greenknight,

The OATH MUST STAY (it's not a chant! :p)! :D They can't do the film without the oath! It's been part of the GL mythos since the forties, and I like it. Pissed me off when they cut it out of the Superman: TAS cartoon....

For casting, I suggest they go with an "unknown" guy between the ages of 26 and 32. (Hal was 26 when he became GL)

This film, if done right, can certainly be bigger than Iron Man and TDK, regardless what the naysayers have...naysaid. :p As someone who's very familiar with the character(s), GL is what you'd get if you crossed Superman with Star Wars (John Williams should totally score it!!!), know what that equals? $$$,$$$,$$$,$$$.

And here's hoping the suit is closer to Hal's current look than the OK concept art that was revealed. I think we'll probably see more concept art, I doubt that's the final design for the suit, anyone remember the Iron Man movie concept art that surfaced a few months before shooting back in 07 (I think)? This is probably a similar situation, IMO.

And saving Sinestro for a sequel is a wise decision. Kinda like saving the Joker for TDK and not blowing the whole load on the first movie. :D

I'm totally psyched for the Clark Kent and Guy Gardner AND Alan Scott cameos!!!! :D And Kiliwog! And Tomar Re!! SWEET!!!

Sorry for the messy post. :D

@Mycroft983
I'm about to show some mega-geekiness. Galactus (or Galan) was a scientist in the universe before this one yes, but the process that this universe had to go through to be born altered Galactus' body and he became only energy. The body you see in the comics, with the helmet and armor, is just armor to house his incredible energies. Billions of years after the Big Bang, Galactus crash landed on a Watcher planet where Ecce the Watcher created the armor we all know today.

I get your point though; they messed up the Silver Surfer in the 2nd Fantastic Four movie, making it where his powers came from the board instead of Galactus.

As someone whos has these comic ,bought when I was going to school. I find the film versions very dissapointing,it is like the the director or people in charge have not read any of the original comics.
Look at the dogs dinner they made of the Fantastic Four the one that should have been the flagship for all to come and all that went before,but ended up crap!
Batman looks like it is going the same way... I do realise they have a problem transferring , Origin,powers and credible story but they must not make the films for want of a better word " Comicky" .
It is 2008 and most people have had there fill of terrestrial based films and most of the comics more or less go straight in to space and deal with the Aliens they find there. Superman would have succeeded if they used his powers they way they were meant to be. I know they have de powered him for say the 1970s but he was more effective in space on distant planet possibly time ( Legion of Super Heroes ) and the like. Give the film audience value for there money and if the cost of making the film correct is to costly dont put out any rubbish it is heart breaking for us who have waited years to see the like of the Silver Sufer come to life. My God how can you ruin a film with a character like him in it but they did. Galactus is a person ..from the planet Taa which was before the Big bang and because The (Big Bang Theory ) is in the public domain it would have been easy for people to accept the concept of life before it,someone older than this universe.I hope They learn for Green Lantern but from there track record I doubt it...Nuff said for now..LOndon

Very much so I mean lets face it all the super hero films that have done well have tried to ground them selves in at least a little realism. I know SM3 was by far the worst of the three, but it is also the only one to involve Alians and some form of body snatching. The further out there the comics movies seem to go the worse they do. They also tend to turn out bad. I think alot will depend on their casting choice.

I was yanking your chain. :-)

Just saying, the space factor won't necessarily make it not do well. You have a good point though, it seems that superhero movies are leaning towards "realistic" so it'll be interesting to see how a superhero movie involving aliens and such out of the ordinary powers will do.

Vic that is one movie. There is one movie in almost every genre or related in some way to almost every concept that has been successful. The point is this is a film about a guy with a magical ring and takes place on both earth and in space. I like Lantern and I think 200M is successful I'm just saying it won't be this huge monster that TDK was or probably not even Iron Man.

I'm not a huge reader of the Green Lantern comics but I must say that I have always loved the concept behind the character and his powers.

And Hal Jordan of course. What a great name for a character!

The more I hear about this movie the more and more exciting it sounds. This will definitely be one production I will be following very, very closely...

I just think the concenpt of Green Lantern will turn a lot of people off as well space fights and everything. I still think it will turn a profit I just don't think it's going to be Huge.

I think I'm having a geek-seizure! 8-)

@Daniel
Many people thought the same about Iron Man, but the marketing really sold that movie. DC needs to market this like crazy.

@Daniel,

Remember that this movie has the potential to set new standards for visual F/X. The spectacle of seeing the power ring(s) in action will likely bring a lot of people to the table who are not familiar with GL at all. That is, if the filmmakers get it right, of course.

Grr I want to hurry up and start talking about casting lol. I'm excited, but I really don't see this as being as huge as some people seem to think it will be. I don't see it bringing in numbers like Iron Man , Spider Man or TDK. It seems more along the lines of X2 and Batman Begins for me. I don't think there will be much excitement outside of the comic fans.

WB will have to fast track Superman if they want to compete with Marvel. GL and Batman are the only movies on slate and nothing officially announced on TDK sequel besides anticipated release date. What's the deal?
