Green Lantern comes out this summer with massive expectations. Can Ryan Reynolds pull off the role of interplanetary hero Hal Jordan? Will audiences embrace the alien worlds, power rings, and other space opera elements of the story?

Whether you think Green Lantern is going to be a huge hit or a disappointment, we can all agree that debating the movie has been a lot of fun – as has looking at all of the interesting promotional and concept art that has hit the web in the past year. To that end, we have a new round of promo art from Green Lantern, via the Daily Blam.

The images, which show Ryan Reynolds flying through space as Green Lantern don’t bring anything new to the table, but they offer yet another look at GL’s much-debated costume. Check out all four images below.

This week, we named Green Lantern number five on our list of 20 most anticipated movies of 2011. Why such a high spot on the list? Because Green Lantern is not only one of the biggest comic book movies coming out this year, but also one of the riskiest.

So far, fans have had mixed reactions to most everything that Warner Bros. has put out, from the first official trailer to Green Lantern’s new power battery. While that’s not a definitive sign that the movie will be bad (comic book fans are notoriously fickle), it does put the pressure on director Martin Campbell and company to put out a truly impressive finished product.

With the notable exception of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, Marvel has pretty much dominated comic book movies in Hollywood over the last decade. If Green Lantern doesn’t show us the goods, then DC may have a rough time enticing new fans to watch movies about the company’s lesser-known characters.

  1. still skeptimistic

  2. Looks like Alex Ross painted these. They sure look better like the actual pics from the trailer. And other officially released pics…

  3. I can’t get over Reynolds casting …dude IMO is sucha tool..

  4. Can’t wait for this film!!…my number one or two..toss up between GL and Captain AMerica..

  5. The art looks better than the real CGI.

    • agreed

  6. Now, we can only hope mr. Hal Jordan does good on film…

  7. You know, I like their interpretation of the Green Lantern “suit”. It’s not meant to be rubber, leather, latex, PVC, or any other type of external fabric; it’s the power of the ring infusing the body of the bearer. If you look at the other Lanterns shown in the trailer, their suits match their physiology, just as Reynolds’ (Jordan’s) matches his. Without showing off his “junk”, that is.

Of course, that still doesn’t let them off about the mask.

  8. Interesting, hopefully the finished product turns out well

  9. ehhh Ryan should of did the Deadpool movie with Robert rodriguez. he fits that role more.

  10. I second Charles. The Green Lantern movie is well and good but Ryan Reynolds is tailor-made for Deadpool. It’s like he was born to play Deadpool. One guy playing to superheroes is just wrong on so many levels. But maybe because Deadpool and Green lantern belong to two Marvel and DC respectively might help the case as there will not be any kind of character clashes as are literally from two different universes.

I’m sure Green Lantern will do well albeit the constant criticism that it is facing. In my opinion the material I’ve seen till now looks bloody cool and come on, the mask ain’t so bad. What needs to be done though is to do something about a Deadpool movie. What they did to Deadpool in the Wolverine movie has to be repaired by making a good adaptation of the merc. I mean that character was not even Deadpool for God’s sake. A 4 year old might have made a better mutant than what Deadpool was reduced to in that movie. The Wolverine movie was just a very sad move.

Moving on I hope Green Lantern delivers and I think that if it is awesome enough DC might even think about a Justice League movie to challenge Marvel’s Avengers! Now THAT would be awesome. More for us!

  12. This is my number 1 most anticipated film of this year, I loved the trailer, all of the artwork has been fantastic, it gonna rock!

    • Same here. From what I’ve read about the script there seems to be a lot put into it especially since they took some elements from Secret Origin and Emerald dawn. The second trailer is gonna be drastically different from the first. Im sure of it.

      • I’ve read a draft of the script, and it has some dark moments, the character of Hal is much more than the few jokes we saw on the first trailer, this is going to be a huge film.

  13. To tell you the truth, I do’t care. The costume doesn’t bother me,, nor the actor as long as it’s not played for laughs. The story has to save this film, it has to be portrayed as the darma it should be, or this will fail big time, with repercussions touching even Snyder’s Superman.

    • I disagree, this isnt a drama, its an action movie, the movie should be handled in the same vein as Iron Man, Hal is alot like Tony, he is a Jet Jock , im not sure where you all get this serious Hal Jordan from, But Hal has never been taht serious he has never been protrayed that way except when he was Paralax, Hal is serious in combat and thats it , other wise he is a wise cracking test pilot. Ther is a reason he is always teamed up with two guys, the Flash and Green Arrow. The two serious GL’s were always John Stewart and Guy Gardener.

  14. I don’t understand why every is so enraged over the costume. It’s green, there’s a lantern on the chest, an eye mask, a ring. Reynolds has got Hal’s “look”, the story seems to be there, the passing of the ring, space battles, the corps… SINESTRO! It seems to me it all depends on script and direction. And hey come on… the suit had to be CG! If the suit was real, you’d all be complaining that it looked plastic and cheesy! (thor anyone?)

The only negative is Blake Lively. If Green Lantern is in 3d, Lively will barely manage 2-d.

    • You speak true words sir.

    • ok , here is something that no one has mentioned the way they presented the costume is condusive of the 3D filming, with the green lines running through out the suit will make the look of the suit different in the 3D format.
I also think the art work looks pretty darn cool and I agree they look better then the other photos, I also think its because they chose to go with the dark green in the art work.

      • That’s a very good point. Until we actually see the movie in 3D, we have no idea exactly what colour the costume will be. Plus I don’t think the effects were 100% finished on that first trailer.

        • I agree, i mean look at tron and how the light on the costumes popped in 3d , im thinking that might be part of what makes it pop.

        • I WON’T be seeing this in 3D, so I hope that they’re not going to ruin the 2D version with the 3D BS.

          • Im sorry

  15. The one image with the collar-looking thing reminds me of Guy Gardner’s lantern suit!

    • Actually… I looked harder, and it is just Jordan’s/Reynold’s gargantuan traps.

  16. yeah because the public is stupid

    • I don’t think anyone is that Stupid. Will they also get confused between Green Lantern and Green Beans?

      • did I forget to state that was sarcasim

  17. I’m getting kind of sad that this isn’t translating to film well

  18. These pictures aren’t helping. That trailer left a bad taste in my mouth.

    Pass. Epic Fail.

  19. i am a comic fan and i think comic fans who are to fickle are just ridiculious. im going to see the film and all other comic ones this summer and going into them like all others to be entertained not to pick out anything and all things that are bad. you are never happy with stuff when you are always looking for whats wrong with things.

  20. While it looks better than the actual images, I’m still not thrilled about the mask and nekkid muscle outfit. Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you should. The suit would have looked much better if they had stuck closer to the original look imho.

  21. Sigh……the more i look for info on this film, the less i find. AN TO BE HONEST, IM ACTUALLY GLAD! i want to be surprised when i walk in the movie theatre an see a film that is plausible as a comic book film. Do i have to like every aspect of it? No. Is ryan reynolds my favourite actor? No. but it is a great character to be shown on film and as long as i know enough about him, thats good enough for me.
