Green Lantern WonderCon 2011 New Green Lantern Images; Cast Attending San Francisco WonderCon

Since the first footage of Green Lantern debuted at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con, fans have been rabidly debating the movie’s merits, arguing over everything from the quality of the first trailer to Ryan Reynolds’ all CGI costume.

Now, they’ll have one last chance to grill the cast of the film, prior to the release, this April at WonderCon in San Francisco.

In a press release today, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment announced that Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Peter Sarsgaard were scheduled to appear as special guests at the popular convention on its opening day, April 1st. The trio will do an autograph signing and then appear on a special panel to discuss the film. In a related event, Warner Bros. and DCE will also premiere the new animated feature, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights at WonderCon.

The signing begins at 4:00 PM on Friday, and the panel follows immediately after at 5:00 PM. While WonderCon isn’t nearly as crazy as Comic-Con (I’ve been to both, and WonderCon is much more laid-back), I would recommend getting there early. Green Lantern is easily one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and the signing and panel will definitely be a highlight of the convention.

In other Green Lantern news, Warner Bros. recently released two new images from the film. The stills, which are decidedly non-action packed, show Hal Jordan sharing a drink with Carol Ferris and also Hal contemplating the power of his ring. Check them out, via the French site MDCU, below.

As I mentioned before, Green Lantern has been the subject of a ton of discussion on the web and in Hollywood, where some industry insiders called the film “terrible.” Add in the fact that the movie is coming out during one of the most competitive years for superhero movies ever (Green Lantern is sandwiched between Thor in May and Captain America in July) and it’s easy to see just how much is resting on Hal Jordan’s superhero shoulders.

Hopefully, Warner Bros. uses WonderCon as one last chance to drum up all of the positive buzz it can around the film – to help drive it to a strong opening among both fanboys and critics. While convention buzz may not always be an accurate predictor for mainstream success, it never hurts to play to your core audience.

Green Lantern clocked in at number five on our list of the 20 most anticipated movies of 2011. The film hits theaters on June 17th, 2011.

  1. Isn’t cap am coming out in July

    • Good catch Kaylee. I’ve updated the article.

    • Oh wow, those images were awesome. LOL

  2. While the movie probably has a bit more humor than is needed, it still looks pretty good, I think. Green Lantern has always been one of my favorite superheroes, so I am looking forward to this one quite a bit. Hopefully this will spawn a whole long franchise of a number of films, and perhaps even eventually a team-up between Hal Jordan/Green Lantern and Barry Allen/The Flash. I am 53 years old, but even have a Green Lantern T-Shirt (and a Flash T-shirt. too), and I date back to the comics of the 60s and early 70s as my “comic period”, so this one is right up my alley! Just consider me a “kid” at heart!

    • the things i hate about this movie is the amount of humour (not needed especially for this type of character) and the half ass special effects (besides the suit(excluding the mask)). i’m more then likely still going to watch this in the cinemas (in 2d mind you) i just hope its not overly infested with stupid one liners and irrelevant ‘love’ scenes (like ironman2)

      • i said it before and ill say it again REYNOLDS IS NOT HAL JORDAN HE IS DEADPOOL.
and on a more serious matter i wont be seeing this in theatres this is a pirate online watch.

        • How about just not watching it all. I hope you computer implodes up while you’re watching it.

      • Yeah cause pilots dont pull practical jokes and have fun.

  3. vic dispose of this garbage…unless its somehow affiliated with SR.

    • Done. I do have to sleep sometime. 8)

    • What garbage? Did I miss something?

  4. if you haven’t noticed, the power battery is in the background of the first picture.

  5. Couldn’t help but notice no pictures of GL in costume. Not a good sign.

  6. Who are the “insiders” that state this movie is terrible? I want names, sources, quoteable quotes!!

    • that isn’t how “insiders” and/or “sources” work. You’re not allowed to know their names. lol

  7. I think the “industry insiders” are Marvel spies. (it’s really mastermind, chameleon and mystique looking like studio suits at the screenings)

I think Green Lantern looks like…. Green Lantern.

As I say, it’s got Reynolds, who’s growing on me. and funny, but capable of good heart wrenching scenes (buried, hello!) .

It’s got a good supporting cast, lively is georgeous, Sinestro looks deadly awesome!

The CG looks fine to me (i am legend, now that was bad!), this is space battles, galactic travel… and the laws of physics being stretccccccccchhhheedddd.

The green lantern corps is there and the suit…. I don’t see how else they could have done it.

Man I can’t wait for this.

I wonder how Cap and Thor would do against our emerald knight in a real fight?

    • Stretched? Try broken, destroyed, total annihilated. But isn’t that what movies are meant to do? Bring it on!

  8. Looking forward to this too Pitt most anticipated for this year..I think Thor would kick some serious butt even against GL ..Cap would not be able to compete with GL..

    • I’d have to agree with that. The Thor kicking butt, that is. My man/god Thor went toe-to-toe with The Hulk. Even though he lost, just giving the green giant a contest is saying a lot. Iron Man, on the other hand, wouldn’t stand a chance. His suit would get ripped to pieces by GL.

BTW, this is one of my top 5 movies to see this year, with Thor being number 1.

  9. Seeing as how Thor is a GOD of Thunder A fight with GL would be NO CONTEST. Thor would win hands down.

  10. This movie is going to be horrific. The cgi suit will be too distracting and it will ruin the movie. It’s my opinion. So DC lovers calm down in advance. Everyone doesn’t have to agree with u.
