The week before last we found out from director Martin Campbell that Mark Strong was in talks to play Sinestro, an integral character in the life of Hal Jordan and the origins of Green Lantern. Campbell also revealed in that interview that we’ll be seeing some of the stranger intergalactic members of the Green Lantern Corps in the film as well.
These aliens include the likes of Kilowog, Tomar-Re and Abin Sur. For those who have no idea who I’m referring to, you’ll get an idea after the jump through some leaked official concept images of these characters for the production of Green Lantern.
Here’s the segment of that interview here Campbell name-drops some of the characters who will be featured in Green Lantern:
“Well, Kilowog will be… Tomar-Re is in it. Sinestro is in it. Abin Sur is in it. All the origin people. Carol [Ferris], of course, who will be played by Blake Lively. All the main characters are there, and it’s a complex story. The origin story of Green Lantern is complex, probably one of the most complex, which makes it a challenge to get it right.”
Cosmic Book News got a hold of some of the concept art for the movie and was apparently able to verify their validity. The first image up top depicts Tomar-Re (fish for a head) and Abin Sur.

I'm hoping DC/Warner goes the CG route on big aliens like Kilowog, instead of trying to find an actor to jump into a suit ala Foxes The Thing…
Have to say I slightly disagree, I think a really decent costume would sell the character better than a bad and obvious CG creation.
Kilowog would be better than a practical effect, if it was done well, abd surely they can use CGI to augement facial features or other body parts if need be.
I also disagree. Practical effects make such a big difference, especially in a movie like this that will feature so much other CG for the space elements.
Jackie Earle Haley as Abin-Sur??? It looks like his face.
That's the same thing I noticed! Wouldn't it be interesting if the connections with JEH being attached to Green Lantern were actually well-founded, but because he'd play Abin-Sur and not Sinestro. The resemblance is really too striking not to be possible. Hope it's true.
The creators of Green Lantern were really into Ancient Egypt I presume with names like Tomar- Re and Abin-Sur. Looks awesome though!! I'm salivating!!!
IMO Jackie Earle Haley is being overused/over thought of. He's good but not for everything.
Well surely you have to agree that their have been recent bad examples of either method. I've been wondering too, and perhaps Rob you have the advantage in finding out, just what has been the hold up on the “Wolfman?” Effects, story, an empty film camera…

Whatever they used to create the aliens or bad guys in “the Fifth Element” would probably work for Kilowag… That and like a massive dose of steroids.

I love the face on Kilowag. I would change the gloves on the costumes though. I much prefer the white gloves. You can overdo the green on these costumes.
White gloves might work in comic books and cartoons, but in a movie they'd be silly. For one thing, they'd get dirty almost immediately.
I can see what you mean by The Fifth Element connection. Drop the big ears and it's pretty close. Wouldn't need steroids, but maybe someone of the size of Michael Clark Duncan. Heck, I'd be surprised if they didn't GET Duncan.
