The planet Oa lies at the center of the (DC Comics) universe and serves as the home base for the Green Lantern Corps and their immortal founders, the blue-skinned Guardians of the Universe.

Two pieces of concept art for the Green Lantern movie have made their way online and they offer an early look at the design and structure of civilization on Oa in the film.

Ryan Reynolds will star in Green Lantern as Hal Jordan, a gifted but arrogant test pilot who is the first human ever selected to join the GL Corps. We’ve already gotten to see Reynolds in his GL outfit (which is mostly computer-generated), as well as Peter Sarsgaard in costume as the villainous Hector Hammond, and the final look for Kilowog, Jordan’s extra-terrestrial drill sergeant and comrade. Now we also have a better idea of how the planet of Oa will appear in the actual Green Lantern film.

The first piece of concept art reveals the look of Oa’s rocky terrain; a mountainous outcrop that is likely Memorial Hall (i.e., a temple of sorts, dedicated to the fallen Green Lanterns of the past); and what may be the Guardian’s Chamber (the massive peak near the center of the image).

Here’s a better look at the tiny figurines (one of which looks like Jordan) in the image’s foreground:

This other piece of concept art focuses on the Oa settlements and showcases the power of the Green Lantern Corps, who are responsible for that enormous green beam shooting out from the planet’s surface.

An official trailer for Green Lantern will be attached to prints of this November’s seventh Harry Potter movie and it will (hopefully) not only provide us with a look at Oa in its final form, but should also gives us an idea of how Reynolds looks in action as the latest incarnation of GL.

Green Lantern arrives in 2D and 3D theaters in the U.S. on June 17th, 2011.

  1. Trippy

  2. Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Beckett for once we agree.

      • Just this once though, let’s not let it become a regular thing. :)

        • Otherwise it won’t be so hilariously awesome when it does. ^_^

  3. AMAZING! :o

  4. If they follow the look in the film as in those pics this is gonna be epic!!!! I want to see the trailer now!!!

  5. I want to see Asgard’s cemetaries.

  6. I’ve got high hopes for this movie. DC has really been impressing me with it’s latest films. Marvel, not so much.

    • i can say the same for the comics lately, DC’s storylines are far more intresting and addictive than marvels.

  7. Anyone note last weeks Smallville when ‘todays’ Clark meets the future version of Clark/Superman? I believed he was older (I know, it’s called acting) I now believe Tom can pull off playing Superman on the bigscreen. (If he wants to)

    • not if he wants to, its if anyone wants him to

      • GL looks like it’s getting the star treatment Superman Returns should have got. Deadpool sucks!

    • Odd place to mention that, but I do agree to an extent. After looking into John Hamm though, I have to admit, I think he could do awesomely in the role.

  8. Just more awesome and first rate promotional material for this film..the more I see from this film the more my hopes rise..This will do for GL what Iron Man did for Marvel…give them the courage to branch out into the pantheon of characters WB has at their disposable..

  9. man this is for sure my most anticapated movie. This has the potential to be the bigest superhero movie yet. not including TDK of course.

  10. I hate harry potter SOOOOO much… but i found myself thinking about going just for this trailer… screenrant, will u plz put the trailer on here so i dont have to get embarrassed by buying a ticket to harry potter? plz? i gotta see GL, OA, aliens, and of course… that ring!!!

    • I second that motion. But every film blog will have it, guaranteed!

  11. I wouldn’t get too worked up over the first trailer. It will most likely be a short 15 second teaser with a close up of the ring, possibly the planet all while a narrator reads the classic GL Corps phrase. Fade to Black *cue applause* Just a guess though.

    • The first teaser is 60 seconds long, and absolutely epic, according to Geoff Johns. But what does he know? :)

      • Well I wouldn’t expect Geoff Johns to say anything but that. Can you imagine hearing an Exec. Prod. saying their movie or trailer or whatever was going to suck when it is released? heh

    • Wrong,if the report of the rought cut of the teaser was something to go by,then it’s going to be the finalized version of that,Geoff Johns said the trailer is a big tease. He said that it was big for a reason!

  12. Judging by the cemetery,I think they are toying with the idea of a “Blackest Night” story arc later. Those crystal like tombs look like they will all be broken out of by those deceased GL’s.

  13. Here’s a High Res Version of the Cemetary:

The 2 figures look ALOT like Hal and Sinestro. There is also a “Death” like-figure with a glowing green scythe on the bottom right corner..I found that VERY interesting….

  14. looks like a hammer to me with a light on each end of the mallet

  15. Great Scenes of the Green Lantern film, The Green Lantern corps will look similar to STAR WARS
