Green Lantern Promo 1 New Green Lantern Movie Posters

Movie images from the 2010 Comic-Con continue to flood the web, including four new character posters featuring the main cast members of next year’s Green Lantern.

There were no news bombshells dropped at the Green Lantern Panel at the convention, and these new images – which were released courtesy of Warner Bros. – do not exactly show off a lot.  They are definitely stylish enough to qualify as a must-see for Green Lantern fans, though.

First we have the one-sheets for Hal Jordan/Green Lantern himself (Ryan Reynolds) and his gal pal Carol Ferris (Blake Lively).  Those that been less than taken with Reynold’s look as the Lantern so far can enjoy the sight of him minus the white, gleaming eyes and sinewy green mask.

Lively looks pretty simple here too, though there has been some speculation that Ferris’ alter-ego Star Sapphire could appear in the movie at some point. The day/night contrast between Reynolds and Lively here is intriguing, so we will see what that entails for their characters’ relationship.

Check out the posters below:

There are also new posters that feature Mark Strong as the Lantern’s mentor, Sinestro and Peter Sarsgaard as the evil psychic Hector Hammond.  Despite his tendency to take on outright villainous roles – and Sinestro’s fiery-faced appearance – Strong’s take on the character is expected to be more nuanced than that.

It looks like Sarsgaard as Hammond is not yet quite as cranially-enhanced here as he was in the previous photo we saw of the villain.  Props to the guy for putting up with that prosthetic and makeup job – just because he is starring in a comic book movie doesn’t mean the task is any less strenuous.

Have a look at these two below:

The Green Lantern movie is just under a year away from release and it is shaping up to be a good time. The positive buzz that I’ve heard about the footage shown at Comic-Con only makes me all the more excited to see an actual trailer, hopefully sometime sooner than later.

Green Lantern will hit theaters in the U.S. on June 17th, 2011.

  1. they could’ve put the mask on him, come on.

    • Totally agree

  2. Wow these are pretty awesome. Strong dose have a striking resemblance of Sinestro now in costume.

  3. The yellow line on the Hammond poster is very telling.

  4. I was skeptical before Comic-Con… but now I am really excited for this movie!

  5. I hope they signed the main cast for at least 3 films.

  6. I hope Hammond gets the old appearance where he was a genius psychopath instead of being a mute in a restraining chair. it’ll probably go from one to other of the course of the film.

I wanna see what Parallax looks like in the film. He looked pretty fearsome in comics, so toning that down would be a bit of a turn off.

  7. Here is the Christ-Allergoric to the movie: In Brightest Day, In Darkest Night, Evil shall not inherit the Earth” (How does that sound ?)

  8. wow both villains look amazing, glad they didn’t go with the mullet ;)

  9. Weird because I’ve heard negative things about comic con footage even IGN was harshing on it which was strange because IGN is usually so bought and paid for they won’t say a negative word about anything.

  10. I think I’ll commit a triple-shotgun-murder if I don’t see a trailer soon. I mean it.

    • That’s lovely

      • Can you let us know where you live so we can avoid you like the plague..

  11. I’ve just realized the film is helmed by Casino Royale’s director Martin Campbell. It makes me even more interested in seeing it.

  12. They look fine to me..Not giving away anything plus we got a little look at Mark Strong as Sinestro and a look at Hammond as well..Geez if they are bringing in the Star Staphire in this movie then they certainly jumping in with both feet to the GL mythos..Parallax too…I hope it is not a case of too much too soon because I REALLY WANT this film to be a blockbuster and give us lots of sequels and character crossover with other films in the DC/WB universe.

  13. in all honesty, why didnt they put the mask on Hal? Thats pretty stupid

  14. The Reason they didnt put the mask on Hal is simple, they want the star of their movie to be on the poster, if he had a mask on you would be able to tell it was Reynolds as easily, and while that isnt important in the movie, it is very important from a marketing point of view.

  15. gah, the more I see of Reynolds the more I really wish he had been cast as Flash. Not that he will do a poor job as GL (and fully expect him to be great in the role), only that I feel The Flash will be harder to cast correctly than GL.

Reynolds snarky personality (seen best in Blade Trinity), height and lean body lend themselves better to the role as The Flash imho. They are going to have a tough time finding a match.

I have to say however I am very pleased with the look of Mark Strong. I knew from the moment I heard he was cast as Sinestro that he was a perfect match to bring the corrupt and power hungry X-GL to life!

The GL Corps is one of my favorite stories….I only hope they get the uniforms to look better than that first initial cover shot we saw last week. They did say it was still a work in progress and with it being completely CGI they can mess around with the look long after primary filming has wrapped up. /croeese fingers

    • Paul Walker would make a good Flash I think..

      • Either him, Bradley Cooper, or Chris Pine.

  16. They just need to replace Lively then the movie will be better, shes a bad actress anyways and this has Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane written all over it again, I see Deja Vu here

    • I was eehhh about Lively when she was cast but I am willing to give her the benfit of the doubt besides I have never seen her in anything so I can’t actually comment on her acting skills…

  17. I hope Reynolds can convey how it feels to wear the Corps Power Ring…I mean it is painful to use and when it is charging from the battery it feels like your head is going to explode..It runs on the will power of the user and anything that requires a lot of will power is hard but ultimately very rewarding..I just hope he doesn’t point it at something and frowns and then “bing” a construct is there..

    • I second that.

    • mine isn’t that hard to use.

  18. Pine would make a good Flash, but I can’t see him being in 3 major franchises, that’s too big a workload.

  19. Are you kidding me Paul Walker? That guy is the worst actor in Hollywood he makes bad actors look good. You must really hate the flash.

    • On that we can agree!

  20. Only just noticed how Hector Hammond’s poster has some yellow in the usually green border.
Maybe this means he’ll be using yellow, fear based energy?
But Hammond doesn’t seem that fear-inspiring.

  21. Xigbar

The yellow probably represents a connection to Parallax.

  22. wow!
