Blockbuster superhero properties have grown increasingly popular in Hollywood over the last decade, with a handful of franchises leading the charge, including Warner Bros' DC Comics Extended Universe. This year, the DCEU is gearing up for two big releases in Wonder Woman and Justice League, the latter of which will unite six major superheroes - Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Batman (Ben Affleck), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Later DCEU installments are set to introduce a variety of other comic book superheroes and villains, but as of yet there are no plans to include Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow.

Rather, WBTV used the bow-and-arrow-wielding superhero to launch their television universe on The CW with Arrow, starring Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen. The CW's DC TV lineup of shows - which additionally includes The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl - has garnered a dedicated fan following, but many still hope to see the Green Arrow join the DCEU. In fact, one popular fan casting is Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam as Green Arrow. However, it appears this particular fan casting will never come to fruition.

In an interview with Yahoo Movies discussing his upcoming film The Lost City of Z, Hunnam was asked whether he'd be interested in ever playing the Green Arrow on screen, or joining a superhero franchise in another role. He said:

I didn’t grow up a comic book fan and I haven’t really seen any of those Marvel films or the Batman films. It’s just not really my taste. I must confess I don’t even really know who the Green Arrow is. … It’s not part of my vision for my career or what I aspire to.

King Arthur (2017) - Charlie Hunnam

Of course, as of now there aren't any plans to bring Oliver Queen into the DCEU, and even if Warner Bros did want to introduce Green Arrow at some point down the line, there's no guarantee they would have considered Hunnam for the role at all. Still, fans who held out hope of the actor suiting up as Green Arrow are sure to be disappointed that Hunnam has no interest in the role. It isn't necessarily surprising, since he largely stays away from franchise films - with Pacific Rim and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword being the exceptions (though even then, he isn't expected to return for Pacific Rim: Uprising) - and a superhero role would almost certainly mean he'd have to sign on for more than one movie.

All that being said, Warner Bros. has plenty of other properties in the works. The studio's original DCEU slate included Cyborg, The Flash, Shazam, and Green Lantern Corps, while they've since added The Batman, Suicide Squad 2, Black Adam, Gotham City Sirens, and Man of Steel 2. These plans seem to indicate Green Arrow won't get the big screen treatment in the DCEU for some time, if ever, which may disappoint fans of the archer. But, as the DCEU evolves, Warner Bros has changed their plans for the developing superhero universe, so there's certainly a chance Green Arrow will appear eventually - just not played by Hunnam.
