From acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers), The Great Wall stars everyone’s favorite American leading man Matt Damon (Jason Bourne) as the savior of the Northern Song Dynasty in a fantasy-drama wherein a host of supernatural beasts of myth and legend are unleashed on an unsuspecting native populace. Written largely by American screenwriters, the new action-adventure epic is all set to deliver another Damon vehicle to audiences around the world.
Closely following the release of the new movie’s first official trailer, there has been a lot of attention paid to Damon’s casting in a film meant to feature the Chinese filmmaking tradition and native mythology. With some Asian-American actors quick to deride the film for its primary casting choices, the ultimate fate of the latest movie monster spectacle is up in the air for now. Regardless, the latest international poster to see release features lead actor, Matt Damon, front and center.
In the latest international poster, potential moviegoers get another first look at Damon in action in the forthcoming The Great Wall as he leaps over the eponymous, historical structure in the midst of certain attack and destruction. The image depicted is jaw dropping, and serves to paint quite the thrilling picture of events soon to come in Yimou’s fantasy-adventure film. You can check out the poster below:

Whether or not The Great Wall will live up to its illustrious hype as the biggest film ever shot solely in China remains to be seen, though with any luck Yimou will be able to bring all of his aesthetic flair and individual artistry to bear in the making of the feature production. Some might still feel hurt over the inclusion of a White Savior in the lead role, but with any luck Damon will pull on his standing as one of the most charismatic leading men currently working in the film industry to lessen some of that tension when the film sees theatrical release.
It’s hard to defend or defame anything about The Great Wall sight unseen, though the debate will inevitably continue as the release of Yimou’s latest motion picture looms ever nearer. Even if Damon proves to be a poor choice for a leading role in what is meant to be the biggest Chinese film ever made, perhaps monster movie fans will at least be blessed with some truly stunning special effects work in the process.
The Great Wall will see theatrical release in the U.S. on February 17, 2017.
