The Grease prequel series, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, was officially ordered to series by Paramount+. Released in 1978, Paramount struck a high note with the adaptation of the Grease Broadway musical for the big screen. Starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Grease - and the soundtrack album - became a global smash hit. In 2019, HBO announced it had ordered a live-action musical spinoff of Grease, titled Grease: Rydell High. However, last year, Paramount announced it would reclaim the Grease property, and workshopped Rydell High into a series centered on the iconic Pink Ladies.

Per Deadline, Paramount+ has given  Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies a series order. Slated for a 10-episode run, Rise of the Pink Ladies will focus on the origin story of the titular gang, composed of Rizzo, Jan, Marty, and Frenchy, and how they came together before ruling the halls of Rydell High. Helmed by Annabel Oakes, Rise of the Pink Ladies takes place four years before the original Grease film.

Musical lovers itching for a regular dose of song and dance should delight at the concept of a spinoff from one of the most popular musicals of all time. Of course, a critical landing point of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies will be the cast tapped to portray the eponymous group. At this time, a release date for Rise of the Pink Ladies has yet to be revealed, and it remains to be seen if original Grease actors will make a special appearance in the prequel series. Still, Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies could become a flagship offering for Paramount+.
