Grand Theft Auto 5 has been going strong for over three years at this point, thanks to help from the addition of the Grand Theft Auto Online, allowing for extended multiplayer universe to exist. In addition to providing another fantastic single-player, open world experience, the various heist missions, battle modes, race modes and additional updates in the online mode have continued to allow the gaming community to explore one of the finest entries in the long-running series. Of course, there is always room for even more fun and a new update is going a route many gamers and movie fans alike may be quite excited by.

While it has been great to see Rockstar Games deliver some intriguing and thrilling updates as far as how to enjoy the various premium additions offered, particularly when it comes to those exciting hesit missions, this latest addition goes a route that will have you wanting to fight for the users. This week Rockstar launched a new GTA Online update that introduces a new adversary mode and motorcycles that have a lot in common with the Lightcycles first introduced in the cult classic Tron.

Based on the trailer seen above, it is clear that Rockstar wants to have fun letting players actually dive into the world of Tron-based battles to the death using motorcycles with the same function as lightcyles (specifically the ones scene in Tron: Legacy). Rockstar provided official descriptions of the new vehicle, the new adversary mode and various unlockable bonuses:

NEW VEHICLE: NAGASAKI SHOTARO

Light up the night with the blazingly fast Nagasaki Shotaro. Packed with enough energy to power the Los Santos grid and sporting the looks of an auto-show concept vehicle, the Shotaro delivers a driving experience that is out of this world. Experience the delights of the Shotaro first in the new Deadline Adversary Mode, which will unlock the bike for purchase at Legendary Motorsport, and the Deadline Outfit is also unlocked for purchase at any clothing store. And for a limited time, proud new Shotaro owners will get a free Nagasaki Logo Tee added to their wardrobe.

DEADLINE

Deadline pits up to four players against another, each mounted on a different colored Shotaro, which emits a temporary light trail as you ride through the arena. Any competitor unfortunate enough to come in contact with said trail meets an instant explosion. Make calculated movements to force opponents to cross your trail’s path and take advantage of strategic power-ups for a competitive edge; use Boost to speed ahead and cut off your opponents, slow down time with Zoned for precision movement, or leap your opponent’s light trail with Hop. Step in the arena now and earn Double GTA$ and RP through November 21st.

UNLOCKABLE IN-GAME T-SHIRT & BONUSES

Feeling a sense of pride after picking up your latest mode of transport? Show your colors and shine bright in the Nagasaki Logo Tee, free with any Nagasaki Shotaro purchase.

Clearly this update has a lot to offer for GTA Online fans who still have plenty of interest in being a part of this world. The added bonus is how Deadline mode is basically advocating players to live out Tron-based fantasies in various urban settings. That is all in addition to the other pieces of unlockable content and upcoming race modes to dig into.

Grand Theft Auto has generally been a fan of incorporating various pop culture references into both their single-player storylines as well as the basic setup of their open worlds. This Tron-inspired update is obviously more overt than other updates from the past, but it still manages to fit in the wild world that Rockstar has created. It also looks like a lot of fun. If players are tired of a familiar way of playing GTA, specifically when it comes to the online mode, this could surely inject some new life into how players race/battle against each other. Players will just have to hope this sort of fun lasts a while or until the next inspired update (or series installment) comes along.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently available to purchase from all participating retailers for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
