David Goyer Shoots Down Batman 3 Rumors

Published 7 years ago by , Updated September 12th, 2013 at 9:30 pm,

In other breaking news, water is apparently wet, the sky is blue and ice cream is in fact delicious!

Talking to the MTV Movies Blog, David Goyer (who wrote Batman Begins and The Dark Knight along with director Christopher Nolan and his brother Jonathon) reveals that none of the God-only-knows-how-many rumors regarding Batman 3 are true.

That’s right, ladies and germs. Nolan has not yet signed on to helm the third Batman installment (the last in a proposed trilogy), pre-production won’t start early in 2009 and no actor(s) have been cast to play Bat’s latest advasary. As Goyer explains:

“We have mused here and there [but] I mean Chris is pretty much a one movie at a time kind of guy. I wish I could tell you more. There really isn’t anything to tell.”

Fair enough, good Sir.

It’s common knowledge that Warner Brothers wants Batman 3 out ASAP with their current sights set for a summer 2011 release – which makes perfect sense considering that will give Nolan & Co. enough time to take a breather and relax before heading back to Gotham City.

Like The Dark Knight before it, my guess is official news on Batman 3 won’t hit till next summer. Let’s thank the MTV Splash page for debunking rumors for once instead of promoting them.

  1. I am not surprised None of of the recent rumors are true,
But its nice to hear from someone close to the production.

  2. whatever….I can’t wait for the next movie. Just got myself a Batman costume for halloween at http://www.batman-costumes.com

  3. Can’t wait for the next movie

  4. @Jennifer

Another one-sentence comment and I’ll consider it spamming for your site and you can kiss ‘em buh-bye.

  5. No rush at spawning one Batman after another, that’s good!
Nowadays we all have big hits followed by 2 sequels right away. I think The Matrix was first at this, didn’t work at all. Pirates, was ok but no, didn’t capture what made the first one so great, not from start to finish at least.
No, rushes are never good especially not the Hollywood-money-making ones.

We all know there will be a next Batman, fans want more and Hollywood wants even more. Luckily we have a good team working on it, they realize what quality is, so keep those rumors if you want, they will not harm this production. :)

  6. You know, that time-machine I asked about on another post can really come in handy about now. :-)

Let them take their time and do it right. Like Steven said, they rushed the Matrix and Pirates movies, and they didn’t live up to the first. Chris took his time after Batman Begins and gave us TDK; need I say more?

  7. I agree let them take their sweet time so we can have another blockbuster hit. that would make me happy :)

  8. The first two were great. I can’t wait for number three to be in theaters. There’s one question, who is the next Batman villian?

  9. No one knows for sure Duane its all speculation. They prob wont give us very viable information until mabey 6 or 7 months before the movie is to be released like last time. A lot of people say its going to be the riddler and peguin though but once again just speculation unfortunatly.

  10. Christian Bale HAS to stay as Batman – too bad about Heath – such a talented actor (not just because of the Joker), and i would really like to see Johnny Depp in the next one – if Batman is to remain Dark and intense – Johnny could pull off the Riddler as a dark, scarey, twisted villan. For some reason, i think Paul Giamotti could do the same for the Penguin. i just loved the last 2 Batman movies…i hope following Batman movies keep that deep, dark, gothic mood going!!!

  11. I really liked for the David Tennant as Riddler rumor to come true.

Heck, I also want the Giselle Bundchen as Poison Ivy one.

  12. This is all very new to me and this article really opened my eyes. Thanks for sharing with us .
