When Professor Pyg arrives on Gotham, he'll serve as one of the show's most depraved villains yet. Gotham the city and Gotham the series have always focused on the darker and more deranged corners of society. As the environment that bred Batman, it makes sense that so many of the city's citizens would turn to lives of murder and destruction. And while Gotham has featured some of DC's most despicable villains so far, they're far from finished.

Scarecrow will continue to bring the fear on Gotham in coming episodes, and he'll soon be joined by the hulking zombie that is Solomon Grundy. Adding in the Sirens, Penguin, Riddler, Ra's al Ghul, and, of course, the sadistic Victor Zsasz, the few heroes of Gotham will have a lot to contend with this year. And then there's Professor Pyg. A relatively new character from the comics, we learned a few months ago that Michael Cerveris will be tackling the serial butcher. Considering how eerie Cerveris was as the mostly heroic September on Fringe, one can only imagine how good he'll be at playing an outright monster.

During New York Comic Con this past weekend, the stars of Gotham spoke on the arrival of Cerveris and Pyg. For Donal Logue, who plays Captain Bullock, the actor will bring something terrifying and powerful to the show.

"We have Michael Cerveris coming in and playing Professor Pyg and he’s such an incredibly gifted actor and, as happens a lot, the gentlest and most gifted of artistic souls can play the darkest, creepiest human beings known to literature or film."

Naturally, Bullock will have his hands full with the serial killer. And Pyg is unlikely to have one of Penguin's licenses. With that in mind, the criminal Kingpin of Gotham likely won't be too thrilled with the arrival of Pyg. For Penguin actor Robin Lord Taylor, however, he feels quite the opposite.

"I’m really really excited for people to see Professor Pyg. He’s coming in in the next episode and he’s played by Michael Cerveris, who is a genius actor … just absolutely brilliant. Visually, and his performance is transformative, so I’m really excited for people to see it because it’s really been something else to watch."

There's no word yet on when Pyg will arrive, and we've yet to see any teases of him in trailers or promos. Will Cerveris be able to match the insanity of Jerome as played by Cameron Monaghan? Knowing that Jerome will never become the show's Joker, Pyg certainly has the chance to be Gotham's go-to villain. Hopefully, we won't have to wait much longer for his arrival.
