Gotham is gearing up for its third season, which is ominously dubbed "Heroes Will Fall." With the last season ending with a plethora of new villains escaping from Dr. Hugo Strange's experimental psychiatric facility, Indian Hill, lots of trouble is heading to the already troubled city. Fortunately, some good is on the way as well.

While the emphasis has largely been on the upcoming villains in this season of the popular Fox series, Jamie Chung is one of the few new additions to be on the side of the heroes. As Valerie Vale, aunt of classic Batman love interest Vickie Vale, Chung will be portraying a newly created character who is expected to have a prominent role in the series. A new image and some details from Chung regarding her character have recently surfaced, giving us a better idea of where Valerie will fit into the upcoming story arc.

Speaking with TVLine, Chung revealed that Valerie is from a family of lawmen and, despite being a reporter, wants to involve herself quite deeply with the GCPD... whether they like it or not. Talking about her character's attitude towards the police, Chung said, "I think the question is whose skin she doesn’t get under... She’ll gives the cops a lead, but continues to show up — and that makes it difficult for them to do their job.”

In addition to being a reporter character bound to supply the series with more of an in to the world of Gotham City, Valerie will also be a new love interest for Ben McKenzie's Jim Gordon, with Chung teasing that "Valerie quickly realizes the kind of danger one can experience when ‘dating’ Jim Gordon." We were already aware that Valerie would be seeking answers in regards to the whole Indian Hill disaster, so this appears to be just another development to take place sooner than later in the upcoming season.

It may be a bit convenient to have the aunt of Vickie Vale be a reporter and love interest to the main character in Gotham, a show set in the world of Batman, but that fits the vibe of this wacky series. Besides, given all the darkness involving heroes falling and all that, along with the presence of so many villains, it's a nice change in pace to hear more about whatever good characters can be coming into this show. Gordon at least deserves some sort of reprieve, despite his evolution from a detective into a bounty hunter of sorts. However, his former girlfriend Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) is getting a love interest of her own, who is said to be a member of a Gotham crime family. Things may be about to get complicated.

Gotham season 3 premieres Monday, September 19 on FOX.
