Amidst all the insanity and corruption that tends to run rampant in Gotham, the one man often tasked with upholding the the ideals of justice and morality is GCPD detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). Granted, Gordon is himself far from a perfect person, and he'd likely readily admit that fact to anyone challenging some of his questionable past deeds. In the end, though, Gordon still does his best to do the right thing, both for those he loves and the city he calls home.

One person Gordon has always made an extra effort to do right by is Bruce Wayne, the billionaire orphan who will of course one day grow up to defend Gotham as Batman. Gordon and Bruce have shared a close bond ever since the two first met on the night the latter's parents were murdered in the street. Part of this attachment may be due to both essentially being orphans, with Gordon having lost his father Peter Gordon to a car accident at a young age, and Gordon's mother also seemingly having been out of the picture for quite some time.

With that in mind, TV Line reports Gordon's lack of family is about to change in a big way, via the introduction of his uncle Frank Gordon. Played by prolific character actor James Remar (Dexter) Frank hasn't been in contact with Jim since the car crash that killed Peter decades prior. According to the official character description, Frank is a "master at playing both sides" and "harbors a dark secret" that will throw Jim's life into a state of disarray and turmoil, forcing him "into a terrible choice between saving his family and saving his city."

Gotham season 3 - Ben McKenzie as Gordon

As mentioned above, Remar is perhaps best known for his work as Dexter's adoptive father Harry Morgan, the man who instilled his serial killer son with the unconventional moral code that guided his life. An in-demand actor since his turn as Ajax in 1979 cult classic The Warriors, Remar has lent his talents to a wide variety of films and TV shows, including CBS' short-lived but well-remembered apocalyptic drama Jericho and HBO's Sex and the City. He also memorably played Raiden in the video game adaptation sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Remar will begin playing Frank Gordon in early 2017. He's also set to play a recurring role on the second season of Hulu's acclaimed drama The Path next year as well. Remar has previously shown a knack for playing manipulative characters, and it sounds like Frank will be no exception. For Gotham's sake, here's hoping Jim has the strength to put the well-being of the city's residents above that of his deceptive uncle.

The Gotham season 3 fall finale airs Monday, November 28 on FOX.
