For all the criticisms that have been directed at Warner Bros. and its DC Extended Universe, the studio's superhero films are not without a number of standout performances. In addition to Gal Gadot's crowd-pleasing turn as Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Margot Robbie's rendition of Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad earned her high marks from moviegoers. The reaction to Robbie's portrayal was so good that Warners recently announced she would return to lead the all-female villain movie Gotham City Sirens.

The project is reported to be on the fast-track, with Suicide Squad director David Ayer onboard as director. Shortly after the announcement, Ayer teased that Catwoman and Poison Ivy could be the two top candidates to appear alongside Harley, and now a new report suggest Megan Fox is eyeing one of those roles.

The report comes courtesy of Bleeding Cool, who reports that Fox has been ordering very specific comic books recently. Reportedly, Fox has received Harley Quinn #14, #17, and #38. The first two feature Poison Ivy and explore her relationship with Harley, while the latter looks at the Gotham City police department.

Comic buying habits do not always point to future castings, but in this case the timing is convenient enough to raise some eyebrows. For Fox to request these specific issues just as the announcement was made (and shipping them to her Warner Bros. address) could indicate she is interested in the role. In fact, she singled out Poison Ivy as a comic book character she'd like to play back in 2014.

Even if Fox's interest is real, there is no guarantee she will secure the role. Scheduling can play a factor in any negotiation, and with others potentially looking to build off of Robbie's success as Harley, the competition for a role in Gotham City Sirens is likely to be fierce.

Regardless of who is cast, the standard for a cinematic portrayal of Poison Ivy has been set very low thanks to Batman & Robin, so Fox or anyone else should have no trouble creating a memorable performance. As the pre-production process on Gotham City Sirens moves forward, it will be interesting to see if Fox's name continues to be linked to the project as a possible casting choice. She is no stranger to big-budget films, thanks to Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but joining the DCEU as a major character like Poison Ivy would certainly be a high point for her career.
