I don't get it, why is it so important for Heath to win but not the movie? Why do I hear that so much? What, does he HAVE to win or else it's not "fair" since he's dead or something? Was he ACTUALLY the best supporting actor? I don't know if he actually was or not... But it seems that all of the other nominees might as well have stayed home regardless of how good they were because they knew they would not win... Is that fair?

I wasn't disappointed, mostly because I knew that the Academy wouldn't nominate The Dark Knight for anything other than SFX/technical awards. At least Heath won for his role as the Joker, and that matters, as does the acceptance speech given by his family (where was his wife, Michelle?)

For me, the real awards The Dark Knight needs to get are the Hugo (Best Dramatic Presentation) the Saturn Awards (Best Dramatic Presentation) the Spaceys (Best Movie) and the MTV Movie Awards (Best Action Movie, Best Villain [Heath Ledger as the Joker], Best Action Sequence, etc.) Those are the awards that should really matter to fans of Batman & comic books like us.

Wow. I completely disagree. The Dark Knight was amazing and was much more than just an action movie. it was very in depth and went pretty far into the morals of crime and human thought. very good, and i havent even heard of the other nominationas for best picture.

The Golden Globe award show is the Kia Spectra of the award shows. The old bastards than run the show believe The Dark Knight shouldn't be nominated because it's a comic book movie. Ganted The Dark Knight did get a lot of over rated attention! I'll admit that! But on the other hand it was a fantastic movie. and should have gotten alot more nominations that it recieved!

p.s. Heath Ledger has the award in the bag. For one he did an amazing job. And two he is getting the sympathy vote. that may sound harsh but you know it's true. But regardles of him living or dying. He deserves it!

@790 Wow, that was a relief. When I first started reading I thought you were going to say you could tell me, but then you would have to kill me.

Small chuckle for early New Year's Day.

That's ok...just the thought of strange perversions will get me through the day.

@790 Dude, seriously...older crowd that never watched? Bad sterotype.

LMAO...took my great-grandson to this movie, and I liked it better than he did. His mother and grandmother went also...it was his birthday, and that's what he wanted. I told them it wasn't a kids movie, but was outvoted. He was the most interested that Heath Ledger was dead, and I promised we would look him up on the web when we got home. Hey, he's nine, and not socially correct yet.

Anyway, we covered four generations, and everyone liked it but him, so can't say that age is much of a factor.

What's up with "Bunch of crownies."? If you meant "crones", I might take offense. If you meant "cronies" I would have to agree, but I honestly don't think age is an issue. Money is rarely age specific.

Cool movie, awesome effects, would have enjoyed it more without the kid. It's certainly better than most of the movies they seem determined to give awards to.

[...] Just a quick note on the nominees: I sure hope that some of the truly worthy films/people get awarded, instead of awards just being given to people for the sake of it or because it feels like they’re owed something. I’d love to see Angelina Jolie pick up the award for Best Actress (she really was phenomenal in Changeling) and I’d be delighted if they recognized and awarded Happy-Go-Lucky for both the feature and Best Actress in the Musical or Comedy category (what a lovely, charming film that is). I think the absolute shoe-in is WALL-E for Best Animated Film (which I happen to wholeheartedly agree with). Overall it’s a solid set of nominations - for the full list of the nominees go here.
Eh... Wall-E was definitely a good film,Ken J, but Kung-Fu Panda, IMO, was just a stunning achievement. I've watched it a dozen times and the beyond the great animation and Kung-Fu action the Zen Buddhist themes of the story are so tight and well woven. For example: go back and watch the end fight between Po and Tai Lung. Every part of that fight sequence incorporates an sequence/lesson/or "accident" Po experienced earlier in the film, therefore lending truth to Master Oogway's claim that "there are no accidents." Profound Zen stuff, dude.

(I may need to stop watching KFP for a bit.)

Dude! Are you friggin kidding me? I think we've all touched briefly upon some of the outrages on this list, but let me toss up another couple. Movies like Button that haven't even been released yet being nominated for Oscars? Bullcrap! Looks cool, but TDK is the biggest cinematic adventure I've ever experienced, in 20 years of movie-going. Secondly, why give Cruise the supporting nom? You guys nailed it in saying he bought that crap. Downey deserves it definitely-watching his transition between various roles(none of them himself) is what real acting is all about. Amazing talent and hilarious. But how about James Franco(almost tossed an expletive in as his middle name, I'm so frustrated.) Pineapple Express was a crappy movie. I don't get why everyone's so hot for these stoner wanna-be-comedies that honestly-have no point other than to make Seth Rogen, Judd Apatow, and friends more money and actually feel like real movie-makers. Meanwhile, Nolan didn't get nominated(one of the best working filmakers I can name) and Christian Bale, an oft-snubbed extremely talented actor(no nom for American Psycho, Machinist, or 3:10 to Yuma) delivers an amazing performance(sorry Keaton-lovers, he is Batman) not to mention the wonderful performance of Aaron Eckhart as Harvey/Two-face. Granted, he was overshadowed by Ledger in the supporting category, but he deserves at least a nod. Sheesh, this is some crap here. Perhaps if the Joker had been gay, or they had included Robin for Batman to molest the bigwigs would've tossed them more noms, as it seems that sensationalized films are the ones that win big now(bull.)

Jess, that's why I tell people to check out the Scream Awards. That's the award show that honors the kind of films everyones into here,,,

Nolan won a (Scream Award) for Best director and Ledger won best Villain/ legend... (Standing ovations!!!)

Also the Independent Spirit Awards is awesome because the honor independent films. And the show is unrated. (They also serve free booze)
