Toho Games, Toho's gaming division, is releasing three Godzilla-starring mobile games - Run Godzilla, Godzilla Battle Line, and Godzilla Destruction - each of which will arrive around the time of Godzilla vs. Kong's spring release. There's been no shortage of Godzilla games over the last 30-plus years, though getting the King of Monsters right in video game form seems an incredibly difficult task.

The iconic character's history in gaming dates back to his early 1980s adventures on the Commodore 64. In the decades since then, Godzilla's wreaked havoc across many a digital landscape. The monster continues to prove rather platform-agnostic, too, appearing on everything from the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 to the Nintendo DS and Wii. There's even a PlayStation VR experience, an oft-forgotten freebie known as Shin Godzilla VR Demo. Godzilla's most recent gaming appearance hardly includes the creature at all, though, since he's merely a skin, albeit an adorable skin, in Fall Guys.

Now three new Godzilla experiences are coming to Android and iOS from Toho Games. Run Godzilla launches worldwide today, excluding Japan, and tasks players with raising Godzilla and Kaiju in a village they must eventually depart. Starting today, players can preregister for the second game, Godzilla Battle Line - a title centered around "three-minute monster all-star battles." This adventure will launch in April and allow players to build up their monster roster to battle others around the globe. Finally, pre-registration for Godzilla Destruction opens today, while the game itself is on track for an April release. In Godzilla Destruction, the creature travels the world destroying every city in his wake. (It looks like top-down version of Rampage, which received a movie adaptation in 2018.)

Jury's out on whether these three games are worth experiencing. Godzilla as a property isn't known for satisfying video game adaptions, but anything is possible. That much seems evident in the fact that fans will soon see Godzilla and King Kong duke it out on the big screen, or the small screen for those who stream the film from the comfort of their home.

Despite the momentous shift ushered in by Rocksteady's award-winning Batman Arkham series, licensed games still don't have the best reputation. That's starting to change slowly but surely, however. The next major releases of this kind include the recently delayed Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and Lord of the Rings: Gollum - all slated to hit stores in 2022.
