New ‘Godzilla’ Poster: Welcome to Monster City

New Godzilla Poster: Welcome to Monster City

Our most anticipated movie of 2014 is none other than the Godzilla reboot coming by way of Legendary Pictures and director Gareth Edwards (Monsters). The Godzilla teaser trailer set the whole world buzzing about the return of the king of monsters, in a reboot that is thankfully worlds away from the 1998 Roland Emmerich film, and much closer to the classic Japanese kaiju films that made Godzilla an icon.

Exact details about the new Godzilla have been carefully guarded; we know that stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers 2) bolster the human side of things with a story about a soldier and his girl separated by the Godzilla event, while other human characters (like Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston) either help investigate/combat the monster or fall victim to its swath of destruction. We also know that Godzilla won’t be the only monster in the film; in classic fashion he’ll be doing battle with other huge beasts as well.

A new Godzilla teaser poster has been released, and it – along with the previously released teaser poster form a strong thematic bond with the teaser trailer, basically highlighting the disastrous event that is Godzilla’s arrival at major American city:

So far, the amount of ambiguity and tantalizing dread has been perfectly balanced to create a lot of excitement around this film without actually revealing much at all. The design of new Godzilla monster – as well as any monster(s) he may face – are still being left to the imagination, which is an impressive feat in this age where everything seems to get spoiled early.

Still our most anticipated film of the year – how about you?

  1. Man, I need to get one of these.

  2. I was tempted to send this poster in as news but didn’t know if you wanted to try and squeeze an entire article out for it so I posted it to the Geek Picks article below this one instead.

Definitely the one movie out this year I’m most excited about.

  3. HAHAHAHA! WHAT ARE THESE SOLDIERS GONNA DO FIRST OF ALL??? WHY NOT SEND JET FIGHTERS AND HELICOPTERS TO BOMB IT?? oH I GUESS CAUSE IT JUST LOOKS COOL.lol!

    • Unless you failed to watch the trailer (likely considering the lack of intelligence emanating from your comments and the inability to find and turn off Caps Lock on your keyboard), you’d have seen fighter jets crashing into Godzilla, exploding on impact and the HALO jumpers being sent in on a mission, which is probably an evacuation more than a kill order.

      • Don’t feed the troll.

    • Hey, if Ant-Man can do the David and Goliath thing…pile on, boys, we’ll tickle him to death!

I’ll be watching this one on Netflix.

  4. tHE JAEGGER FROM PACIFIC RIM WAS ALREADY HAVING A HARD TIME DEFEATING THESE MONSTERS AND IN THIS GODZILLA THEYRE SENDING PEOPLE SKY DIVING??? LOL

    • There are better ways to get attention.

    • I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT!?!??

  5. WOW…….EPIC!

  6. He’s huge!

  7. looks like some hell is about to rain down on him

  8. Theyre sending in marines to detonate oxygen destroyer close to gman or evac

    • +1 :D

  9. I keep rewatching this trailer. I think it might be the best I’ve seen. Just brilliant.

I’m very very excited for this movie.

…please don’t let it be (that much of) a letdown.

  10. I prefer the older poster which showed less of the monster. It heightens the mystery and intrigue surrounding the movie.

  11. Wow.a very cool Godzilla(2014) poster. It looks epic and scary at the same time, nicely done, can’t wait for May 14th to get here.

  12. The paratroopers look like blood dripping down. Cool effect. This movie keeps looking better and better. Heisenberg better kick godzillas butt!

  13. My excitement level just ramped up several degrees–and it was pretty high to begin with. Can’t wait for this!

  14. Maybe the smoke coming from the HALO soldiers is the signal on where to drop “THE BOMB”? I mean, what else are they going to do if they land that close to Godzilla?

    • Someone correct me if I’m wrong but it makes sense if the red smoke from the HALO jumpers is their form of keeping track of where everyone else is.

      • Just thinking out loud, what else would they be landing that close to Godzilla for?

  15. Jesus Christ.. how much bigger is this creature going to get.

    • That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking. I mean, that’s ridiculously huge.

      • …what happens when the Geico lizard takes steroids…!

  16. I thought if this was successful they might in the near future have a King Kong vs Godzilla movie but people quickly shot that idea down saying Godzilla is three times bigger than Kong.I don’t know it’s the movies we’ll just have to wait and see.

    • Don’t forget the fact that King Kong takes place in the 30′s and this Godzilla takes place over 80 years after King Kong died, so unless they remake King Kong, set in modern day, and make him the size of Godzilla, it won’t happen.

    • 3 times? Godzilla could hold Kong in his Hand like the ape held Ann Darrow. though I doubt their relationship would be as romantic ;)

  17. Let me guess, Godzilla will attack NYC again. (yawn)

At least his looks nothing like that 2006 film (fugly). This 2014 version looks more like his original Japanese look.

    • I meant 1998 film. My bad.

    • Hes attacking san diego, vegas, hawaii, parts of asia, its said he also obliterates russian navy fleet. P.s. gman goes where he pleases .

  18. If only Godzilla is REALLY that big…. we’ll be in for a treat.

    • Hehe, why would they make him bigger only for the posters?

  19. Theyre gunna use the oxygen destroyer. Also the air crafts cant get close due to atomic breath. You know what movie needs to be made for 60th anniversary? Gojira vs bagan if you dont know bagan ply supergodzilla

  20. why does it say “and Brian Cranston”? is that common? is he no lead?

beside Godzilla he`s the main reason why I want to see this movie, I`ll even endure Aaron Taylor-Johnson…

    • The last name in a list of credits with that “and” preceding it is a prestigious spot that’s almost like second billing.

  21. When I first saw the trailer, I thought “Yeah! Skydiving souljas!” Then through the fog and clouds, the head of Godzilla was revealed to me.

And I was terrified. The concept just seemed so real. Few movie trailers managed to have that impact on me. I’m seeing this film as soon as it arrives.
