Children of the 90s have been abuzz with excitement for a few months ever since it was announced that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel would be reuniting as Cory and Topanga for Girl Meets World, a spin-off of the ABC comedy series Boy Meets World, this time focusing on the next generation of the Matthews family.

The series follows the trials and tribulations of Cory (now a teacher like Mr. Feeny) and Topanga, catching up with them in real-time after the end of Boy Meets World, as they are now married with two kids of their own

Rowan Blanchard is playing the lead, Riley Matthews, described as "an adorable girl on the cusp of whatever comes next in life, and wanting to rush into it head first. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, and spends most of her time juggling the obstacles that life throws her way." Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter is playing Maya (Riley's Shawn Hunter-esque best friend), who isn’t one of the best students in school, but she looks to Cory as a role model, having never met her real father.

In addition, Teo Halm was recently cast as Cory and Topanga’s son and Riley's big brother Elliot. Not unlike Eric Matthews, the character "will start the series as a 'thinking man’s jock.'" He’s also "good looking, well built, funny and insightful in his observations. Good hearted except for his dedication toward using Riley (Blanchard) as his wrestling practice dummy. His parents worry that he has inherited the ‘Eric Matthews Algernon’ gene and will lose intelligence as time goes by.” Yeah, that sounds familiar, and is a great reference to the character arc that Will Friedle had as Cory's brother in Boy Meets World.

Over the past couple days, production has commenced on the pilot for the hopeful new series that will air on The Disney Channel, should it get picked up by the House of Mouse. And while we don't have any official photos from the series, cast members, both new and old, posted pictures to Instagram and Twitter for everyone to enjoy.

Check them out below (click to enlarge):

About a month ago, series creator Michael Jacobs said that any old cast members form Boy Meets World had an open invitation to reprise their roles in this new spin-off. While the pictures in the gallery would indicate that many accepted the offer, some quick observations just might throw that thought to the wind.

Various photos appeared through the Instagram profiles of Maitland Ward (who played Rachel in the later season), Cory Matthews himself, Ben Savage, and young series leads Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter. Plus, Danielle Fishel tweeted that adorable picture of Cory and Topanga's embraced hands, complete with wedding rings.

Boy Meets World - Older Cast

If you've taken a gander at the photos, you'll see the likes of William Daniels (Mr. Feeny), Will Friedle (Eric Matthews), Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) and of course, Maitland Ward herself. However, none of these cast members have been confirmed to return. In addition, a tweet from Blanchard accompanying the photo with Friedle and Strong said, "Rider Strong and Will Friedle visited us. OH MY GOSH!" Which means they weren't there to film.

Since many of the cast members have moved on to different things in their career, it wouldn't be a surprise if some of them don't come back. Friedle struggles with agoraphobia and has taken to doing voicework for cartoons. Strong is a low key director, and Daniels has made various appearances on shows like Grey's Anatomy. However, their appearance on set during filming does gives us hope that they'll at least show up for a brief cameo appearance to appease the fans.

Either way, it's cool to see the classroom set from Girl Meets World where Cory will be teaching, and there's a crowded look at the Matthews' household as well. We can't wait to see more, so hopefully Disney Channel smartly picks up the pilot to series so we can see what this new coming-of-age tale is all about.

Girl Meets World is currently in production, so stay tuned for more news.
