Although the wait has been long, it's almost come to an end. Ginny & Georgia recently set a return date for its second season and ten new episodes are slated to hit Netflix on January 5. Now that Ginny knows the truth surrounding her mother's crimes, a wedge has been driven between the show's most important duo. However, Georgia isn't the only character her daughter had a falling out with during the season 1 finale.

Sara Waisglass plays Ginny's best friend, Maxine, who cuts her out of her life after discovering the secret she's been keeping since the pilot. Ginny has been secretly hooking up with Max's twin brother, played by Felix Mallard, behind her back. Waisglass is known for her role as Frankie Hollingsworth in Degrassi: The Next Generation and Degrassi: Next Class. Meanwhile, Mallard has worked on projects such as Neighbours, All the Bright Places, and Locke & Key.

Ginny and Marcus in Ginny & Georgia season 2

Screen Rant: How is Marcus and Maxine's relationship when we pick up in season 2? They weren't on great terms when we left them.

Sara Waisglass: At the end of season 1, obviously, Max is pretty pissed. But I think that's normal for a bro-sis relationship, and I've certainly enjoyed watching them get on each other's nerves. I do think something really beautiful that happens in season 2 is you do get to see a lot more of Marcus and Max's relationship. While they are the people who can push each other's buttons the hardest, they're also the people who care most about each other. I think that's really beautiful to see.

Felix Mallard: Absolutely. You said it perfectly.

Sara Waisglass: I know [laughs].

Max has always been this ball of energy and enthusiasm, but what is her arc going to look like now?

Sara Waisglass: I think something really special that the writers did this year is they showed the flip side of her. As deeply as she loves and as big a ball of energy she can be, she can also hurt incredibly deeply and feel a lot of pain and just have those very high highs and very low lows. I loved seeing her go through her Mad Max phase and seeing her get really angry and how she deals with that and how she deals with betrayal and heartbreak. I just think she's such a fun character to get to play and get to learn about, and I learned so much more about her this year. I think her arc is one of change and growth, and I'm excited for it.

How is Marcus doing without Ginny around? She's his closest friend, I would say, besides Max.

Felix Mallard: Absolutely. We leave off season 1 on a sense of worry and a sense of care. I think they learned so much about each other throughout season 1 and Marcus and Ginny have a shared vulnerability in that sense. Going into season 2, he's concerned and wants her to be okay, at the same time as being confused as to why she just took off. Throughout the season, we get to explore that love and that connection and see where it goes.

What about MANG? We didn't leave them in the best place, and they have such a great friendship.

Sara Waisglass: I love, love, love MANG. I love female friendships. That was one of my favorite things about season 1—was watching that friendship come to life on screen. That's why it was so devastating with that huge blowout fight in episode ten. Obviously, I can't give anything away, but I know Max is hurting. I know betrayal is deep for her. I'm excited to see how audiences react to that. I know that they're excited to see if MANG gets back together, and I just want them to watch and see.

We know that Marcus had a best friend who died. Are we going to learn any more about that this season?

Felix Mallard: I think it was one of those things that informed the audience on where Marcus was at and showed that he has a deeper range of emotion than we might initially think. He was kind of initially painted as maybe just aloof or maybe just didn't really care about anything. But as the season goes on, you learn that he has a capacity for great pain and a capacity to actually feel a lot more than we initially expect of him. Going into season 2, I think in a similar vein, we explore that capacity for pain, but not necessarily looking back. I think we do tend to look forward and look for new avenues as to why he is feeling the way he is.
