The cast of Fox's The Gifted is growing thanks to the recent addition of MacGyver co-star Jermaine Rivers as Shatter - a Geoff Johns created Morlock character. The show tells a timely story of a family on the run from the Sentinel Services, a government organization out to protect people from dangerous mutants with a sinister agenda. They then join an underground network of mutants in order to protect their mutant children, which comes with its own sets of trials and tribulations.

Rivers will play a mutant who appeared in the Geoff Johns created Morlocks, a story about a group of mutants who start a new life in Chicago's sewers after the emergence of a government-sponsored anti-mutant hysteria. Shatter's abilities include a crystal like skin and the ability to turn other objects into crystal. This casting gives another clue as to the storyline that the mutants and the Strucker family will be facing, as the Morlocks were major players in the battle against the sentinels and formed a sort of support group for each other while avoiding the sentinels.

The actor confirmed in an Instagram post that he'll be joining the show as a reccurring character. Geoff Johns also took to Twitter to praise the casting of Shatter and his appearance on the show. The cast of the second episode is shaping up to be very exciting. After all, Shatter isn't the only Morlock to join The Gifted. The second episode will also see Elena Satine of Twin Peaks fame join the cast. With the two of them bearing the Morlock moniker in the comics, is there a chance that they have some sort of connection to each other as well as the mutant underground? Time to start speculating about how Fox's X-Men universe is all connected.

Fox's The Gifted stars Amy Acker (Person of Interest) Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Natalie Alyn Lind (Chicago Fire) , Percy Hinds White (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb), Jamie Chung (Once Upon a Time) , Sean Teale (Skins), Emma Dumont (Pretty Little Liars) and Blair Redford (The Lying Game). They're joined by Coby Bell (The Quad) and newcomer Garrett Dillahunt as Ahab, another major figure from the comic books who features in the mutant hunting paranoia that seems to be a hallmark of life in The Gifted.

Super powered stories and the struggle to be accepted are timely in this day and age. With shows like The Gifted shedding a figurative light on these struggles, that makes them more relevant than ever. Thankfully great casting decisions like this can help. Just how Shatter will play into the world that producer Matt Nix is creating remains a mystery but it's one we're looking forward to figuring out.
