G.I. Joe Hits DVD & Blu-Ray This November

3 years ago by Rob Frappier

gijoenewlogo G.I. Joe Hits DVD & Blu Ray This November

After earning nearly $300 million in worldwide box office grosses during its theatrical run, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra is set to make another boatload of money this November 3rd, when the film comes out on DVD and Blu-ray. Available in multiple formats, G.I. Joe fans can take the film home for $19.99 as a one-disc DVD, for $24.99 as a two-disc DVD, or for $29.99 as a two-disc Blu-ray.

If you opt for the two-disc DVD or Blu-ray, you’ll get access to a digital copy of the film, as well as two featurettes, “The Big Bang Theory: The Making of G.I. JOE” and “Next-Gen Action: The Amazing Visual FX and Design of G.I. JOE.” Oh yeah, there’s one more special feature I would be remiss to mention. It’s a little hard to explain, so I’ll let the press release do the talking.

“The two-disc DVD and Blu-ray packages will also feature augmented reality technology that will allow owners to participate in an exclusive 3D holographic G.I. JOE combat experience, utilizing their webcams and a special website. Fans will be able to choose between SNAKE EYES and STORM SHADOW, two of the most popular G.I. JOE and COBRA characters, and battle against their enemies one-on-one in an immersive 3D video game.”

Hmm… Sounds…interesting? Anyway, if you enjoyed G.I. Joe in the theaters and you have a Blu-ray player, I would recommend springing 30 bucks to pick up the movie. At the very least, you’ll have another mindless action movie for your rainy day collection.

If, however, you thought G.I. Joe was a disaster, guess you should let Paramount know by keeping your wallet closed.

Will you be picking up G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra on DVD or Blu-ray?

I’ll probably grab the DVD for, as you say, the rainy day mindless actioner (I see this as being one of those movies I have on in the background while I’m doing other stuff, occasionally glancing over to check out the action scenes or to laugh at Channing Tatum’s attempt at acting)

unfortunately for me G.I. Joe was just not right. Action was badass but not enough to bring up the rest of the very dull movie. My rainy day mindless actioners are still Crank and Shoot em’ Up. LOVE THEM!

Not a chance. I got to see it for free and I still felt like I got ripped off. Seriously, even the dialog was crap. The Commander saying “you and what army?”. WTF?!

I liked it, completely mindless summer action blockbuster. I left the cinema smiling, which is rare in these days of darker is better. Not true, sometimes watching something with a sense of humour and fun eg Star Trek, is better than watching a misery fest like The Dark Knight.

Definitely a good one to buy. It was very entertaining and it would be perfect for a family movie night or Sunday afternoon.

    Translation:
The Dvd will be available for $3:99 used before Christmas…

I’ll check it out when I see it used for 99 cents. That should be around Feb 2010.

THE MOVIE WAS NOT AS BAD AS PEOPLE MADE IT OUT TO BE, IT WAS BY NO MEANS A MASTERPIECE, BUT THE POTENTIAL IS DEFINTELY THERE FOR A BETTER SECOND FILM. NOTE TO PARAMOUNT: BRING IN A NEW DIRECTOR FOR GIJ2, SUMMERS IS JUST TO PREDICTABLE WITH HIS STYLE, PLUS HE ALWAYS GOES OVER BUDGET.

I agree, this film was highly entertaining, given the subject matter an its’ origins. Now on the next one, get Larry Hama to give it a treatment an it’ll be gold again.

Sounds to me like they are just throwing in all these bells and whistles with the DVD/Blu-Ray because they know how bad the movie was,and they just want to get more suckers to spend some more money on it.

I agree with you Will. This movie just wasn’t right and I can find something better to be my “guilty pleasure” if I just want to watch mindless action.

    Although,Sienna Miller in Blu-Ray?!

Yeah the 300 million dollar grossing movie will really drop down to 99 cents by Feb. I enjoy GI Joe, and I never understood all the “it’s not like the cartoon” complaints. Hey heres a thought buy the cartoon on dvd and watch it!
