  1. Summers is all I have to say!

  2. I have nothing to say except for FIRST!

  3. Second!

  4. They should’ve used Charlie Adler for the voice of Cobra Commander

  5. the movie was just as ludicrous as the first but not nearly as much fun.

i was bored most of the time

    • I actually fell asleep. What a snorefest.

  6. I’m tired of movies treating the villain as a big secret. The source material they’re based on features them throughout the comics or shows that they’ve been a part of and doesn’t only utilize them for a final act disappointment (see Cobra Commander, Megatron, Venom, Talia al Ghoul etc)

  7. It was MUCH better then the first but that’s not saying much with how bad the first one was. Brue Willis does a good job as the founding member of the Joe’s, much better then he did in A good day to Die Hard sad to say. A lot of good action scenes too. My only beef is that Lady Jay didn’t have here Javelins like in the Cartoon plus not once did they yell Yo Joe! or Cobra! But Cobra Commander did look like he supposed to like in the Cartoon. I didn’t mind Duke being killed off since he didn’t do much for me in the first film. It was actually good they killed him off because they were trying to hard to show how him and Roadblock are best buddies and it was getting dam annoying. Can anyone tell me who Firefly was? I don’t remember him in the cartoon at all. He was a decent bad guy but have no clue on his back story.

    • Firefly is a ninja master, a saboteur, and an expert in all NATO and Warsaw Pact explosives and detonators. He always places his charges in the proper location for maximum damage. He appeared in some episodes in the cartoon series back then

      • Ninja master??!! Boy did they get his character wrong in this crappy film!

    • First one is far better than this barely comprehensible sequel. The characters are fun and the action set pieces are bigger, longer and more visceral. It also never feel as disjointed compared to this one. G.I Joe is never meant to be realistic or intelligent. The second movie is taking things too seriously sucking out the fun by killing the main protagonist and leaving giant plot holes( Joe’s headquarters? General Hawk anyone?) Whose idea is it to include a character as dull as Cotrona’s Flint? In my book, Rise of Cobra gets 2.5 star for a movie but 4 stars for entertainment. Retaliation gets 1 star for the movie and 2 stars for entertainment( 2 stars for the Snake Eyes on the cliff side action scene) Sorry but Retaliation is an epic fail.

  8. I kept wondering after watching this movie: “Wtf didnt Cobra Commander take the briefcase with him at the end?!”

Not a smart leader if you leave and trust your goon squad with the most powerful weapon device in the world to do your own dirty work.

    • Good point Daniel. But if you remember in the Cartoon Cobra Commander was never a smart leader to start with.

  9. Good:
    adrianna palicki is ridiculously hot
    Tatum departed early
action scenes were pretty good even though the mountain side fight was preposterous
    Cobra commander’s suit was awesome
    Stormshadow and snake eyes

    Not so great:
Jaye’s facial expression when they were walking in the desert
    Poor writing
Poor acting (see rza and the rock but it probably only seemed that way because of their terrible lines)
All the decent action scenes were already in the trailer which is why im trying to avoid wolverine, MoS and star trek trailers as much as possible.

On a separate note, this is not necessarily a bad thing but did anyone think the music playing when the joes were being honoured at the end sounded a lot like linkin parks ‘what I’ve done’ which played at the end of transformers when optimus was inviting more autobots to join him?

    • Yep. Just like the first movie, there was still an impression of trying to imitate the Transformers films.

  10. Thanks Billy. I forgot about that lol

  11. i’m i the only one wondering why give mouse a name and make him seem like he’ll be a main character and then kill him off i was kinda confused. but i did like them killing duke off because i am not a fan of channing. i also thought the acting was bad as well very how do you say… bland.

but someone please answer the first question because i am confused

    • Who was Mouse anyway? I never heard of or even saw in the Cartoon. The only one that even comes close was Tunnel Rat and I think he only appeared in the Animated version. I guess they felt giving him a name and such was so if you knew him a little it would tug on your heart strings a little when he go killed. It’s kind like the cliché in war movies were they guy dies a day before he goes home.

      • its not a cliche…soldiers & marines really die at war before going home.

        • I know full well Mean Green that service men and women in real life die just before they go home. As a former service member I know the sacrifice they make. My statement wasn’t meant to offend but just to point out how movie makers use that as a way to get people more wrapped up in a character that isn’t in the film that long to start with. Any war movie you see you can pick out who will die. Either they have a girl waiting for him at home that he keeps talking about or he his close retirement. I say it’s a cliché because it’s used in ever war film.

  12. Anna I was confused by that too. But perhaps he is alive after all. Somehow. Someway. I mean they brought back Storm Shadow without a bit of explanation, so who knows what # 3 will do.

  13. Saw it this morning with the Boy.

    We liked it.

Got to love a movie theater with 9am Movies that serve breakfast.

  14. This movie left me with too many questions…like how was storm shadow alive? What happened to scarlet and rip chord? Who was mouse? Since when does duke die?

    • Yeah I was wondering that too. I also was wondering what happen to the Baroness and all of the other characters from the first movie that survived but were not in the movie. I have been trying to search for answers on Google but have came across with nothing so far. If anyone knows or finds out, Reply back and/or email me and Tim

  15. Oh and I don’t understand why Cobra would not free Destro. He’s a great villain and it would of been cool to have him fight as well. I enjoyed both movies. Both have lots of good action parts. The only thing that bothered me about the first one was the storyline they had for Duke, Cobra, and the Baroness. That just didn’t make sense. It was nowhere close to what the comics or cartoons say about them. The original story, something close to it, or no back-story would have been better than the one they had for them. As far as the second movie, there’s 2 things that bothered me. One was not having certain characters in there from the first film. Second, is that Duke and Destro don’t do much in the film.

    • What happened to them was that they werent in the movie cause this movie sucked ! They put in USELESS characters in there changed everything which killed the movie ! A good ass movie ( gi joe rise of cobra ) the first one ruinedddd because of gi joe retalliation .

  16. Wasn’t this 9 month delay in the release of the film also to provide Channing Tatum a meatier role? I am curious to know what kinda role he had in the original cut that was scheduled to release last year…

    • he wasnt a big star when the first movie was released…remember this was filmed before 21 jump street & magic mike. I guess thats why they killed him off in the second movie.

      • That’s true…but did they really make any changes in his role? I think not..

        • Yeah, after that delay I was expecting to see more of him before he died, but it didn’t seem like they added much.

  17. can we talk about the over the top ridiculousness…Army Uniforms with Marine Insignia???? lol Guys picking up 50 cal. machine guns. I thought G.I. Joe was a private Army…isnt that what they led us to believe at the beginning of the first movie??? How could G.I. Joe get orders from the President when it was a Nato unit???

    • I noticed the Globe and Anchor on Lady Jay too at the end. Hollywood is getting to the point were they don’t care about being accurate anymore they just want big explosions. There are only a hand full of movies that pay attention to detail like Band of Brothers, Black Hawk Down and We Were Soldiers. Don’t get me started on Pearl Harbor! LOL

  18. the mountain top scene was pure ridiculousness…but also pure fun. Why were they trying to turn Snake eyes into Deadpool? lol. I mean its almost like they tried turning him into a Superhero.

  19. i saw gi joe retaliation yesterday and it was so awesome i loved the action and everything.but the part that bothered me is why duke died i mean come on he was the main character the captain and why are ripcord scarlett breaker heavy duty and general hawk aren t in the movie i mean there is a lot of mystery to find out and i thinking duke might be alive still maybe he escped out of the truck but the other joes didn t see him and there making a gijoe3 ithink cause cobra is still alive

    • Duke’s death was the biggest turnoff since Hicks and Newt died at the beginning of Alien3 no matter how miscast Tatum is on that role. Lets just hope they somehow resurrect him in the third movie( i doubt the they will bring him back though) and bring back the other cast like the Baroness, General Hawk, Scarlett and Ripcord.

  20. I think they should have had some explanation on what happened to the first movie’s Joes.

The Duke death scene was weird… you weren’t even sure he died.

I found that the whole battalion being struck down so easily also a bit anti-Joe (aren’t they the best of the best?).

I do like how they made Storm Shadow kind of a good guy (I remember they did something similar in the comics) but I think the Zartan reveal should have been at the end. Speaking of, the Zartan death scene was also bad.

Best part was the ninja mountain scene. No real big vehicle chase scene (I don’t count the Rock’s track battle).

Not a lot of “Joe-tech” either but that’s to be expected since they were “closed down”.

I liked the first movie better… so take that for what it’s worth.

    Yo Joe!

  21. So, nobody else thought it was weird that Lady Jaye started undressing and said “If my dad could see me now”…AWKWARD.

  22. What happen to Destro? Is he still in prison?

I think (if theres a sequel) Duke will be resurrected by Cobra Commander or by Doctor Mindbender that will explain how Storm Shadow lives. They also left Duke’s body in the desert maybe Cobra will retrieve his body. That will continue the story arc between Duke, Cobra Commander and the Baroness.

I also wish to see a Scarlett/Snake-Eyes spinoff in the future.

    I hope so…

    • If you noticed Cobra Commander told Destro after he was broken out of that chamber by Storm Shadow that “he was out of the band” So it looks like you won’t see him anymore. They can’t do anything with Dr. Mindbender since he was killed in the first movie when they explained why Cobra Commander needs the mask and what the Nano tech was all about.

      • In the first movie Cobra Commander explained that he and Dr. Mindbender survived the blast.

        • I don’t remember that but then a lot of that movie was forgetful! LOL

        • Yeah, Dr. Mindbender survived. It was explained during Duke’s confrontation with Cobra Commander in the first movie.

  23. I liked both movies, but I thought Retaliation was too short and too much of scenes in the trailers. ady Jaye should have had her proper haircut at least. I don’t think they should have killed off Duke, but they killed off Zartan and Firefly so I guess the will kill off characters to make room for others should they continue the franchise. It was fitting that Coves Commander worked his way out at the end, as he so often did in the cartoon. Btw, people are taking this way too seriously, it is G.I. Joe, it is over the top popcorn fun.

  24. What I was most disappointed about was the lack of continuity between the first and second movie. I understand that the movie makers cannot always bring everyone back but it seemed like no effort was made whatsoever to explain the absence of Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid, Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and others. I understand the effort to mention Destro (without the original actor) and do not hold the filmmakers at fault whatsoever for not geting an actor like Joseph Gordon-Levitt to return but the ignoring of so many key characters from the first movie is evidence of the movie’s quality to me. While they ay have wanted “Retaliation” to be able to stand on its own, its obvious attempt to play a part in a G.I. Joe trilogy makes it unacceptable.

Also, on a similar note, the shrugging off of the deaths of Duke and Mouse (are we supposed to care about this guy?) didn’t help.

    • The producers refused to pay the original actors and instead waste their money on Bruce Willis( who sleepwalks throughout the movie) and cast affordable actors like D.J Cotrona and Adrianne Palicki. Comes to show you producers only care about money. Killing Duke reminds me of the same decision movie producers did on Alien 3 and X3: The Last Stand. Sadly the movie is big boxoffice success, comes to show you what kind of audiences we’re dealing with nowadays.

  25. Worst movie ever , the first one was WAYY better they changed ALL the characters -.- what happened to marlon & duke dying uhm no that just killed it all he was the MAIN character & last time i checked M A I N characters DONT die -.- the person who wrote this movie is a complete dumbass . How did that ninja asian survive a movie with many questions UNanswered what happened to cobras sister ? W O R S T MOVIE EVER !

  27. They shouldn’t have killed off Duke… My Favourite ‘character’, instead he could’ve had facial tissue damage and needed plastic surgery. Voila, hire a new actor to play Duke. His death wasn’t worthy enough of the Character. Duke wouldn’t lay there in shock, he’d keep moving with every ounce of life left. Second, I agree with the review of this film by Screenrant, the scenes felt chopped to hell, which would be the Editor’s fault. That’s assuming there wasn’t any studio interference. The film had great potential, but instead it falls short of its target. I give it 3 out of 5. It had some good one-liners. I’m very greatful that Larry Hama is putting out re-invisioned G.I.JOE graphic novels, maybe that’s what Paramount should base their next one on, without messing with the structure if that’s at all possible.

  28. Although the movie was entertaining I just couldn’t get over the fact that they cut dukes part off short a character that has been the face of gi Joes for many years just so the rock could have the leading role :-/

  29. Killing all the Joes in the desert? It doesn’t make sense considering that’s a rather small group of Joes we’ve seen camping on that place plus the Joes have a large homebase and General Hawk in command( missing in this film) Killing Duke is an even worst idea( Baroness story goes unresolved and Duke’s last words between him and Cobra Commander says they’ll be meeting again) and probably the producers’ decision. Flint has totally no character and dull as hell. Willis is literally sleepwalking through his role screaming paycheck. Even the finale is disappointing. The only watchable segment was Snake Eyes fighting in the mountain cliff side. The famous “Yo Joe!” is missing too replaced by a generic “Hoo Ah!” No matter how much bad critism the first movie got, i still think is fun and enjoyable, Retaliation is just bland.

    • *correction: The famous “Yo Joe!” is missing too, replaced by a generic “Hoo Ah!” No matter how much bad criticism the first movie got, i still think it’s far more fun and entertaining, Retaliation is just a bland sequel.
