We’re just a few weeks away from the official start of the 2012 Summer Movie Season, which means tons of franchise titles, reboots, and sequels will soon be flooding theaters – including, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Expendables 2, and Piranha 3DD. Once things cool down at your local multiplex, more artsy fare (like Neil Jordan’s Byzantium) will be taking the place of those blockbuster releases.

As it were, we have new promotional stills, images, and posters from all four of the aforementioned titles to share with you today. So, whatever your flavor – be it smoldering-but-deadly secret soldiers, the definitive BAMF (ie. Chuck Norris), well-endowed sunbathers or centuries-old, immortal vampiric beauties – you can find it here.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Director Jon Chu hopes to wipe the slate clean (literally) with his Joe sequel, which removes most of the players from the previous live-action G.I. Joe flick – in favor of bigger, better names like Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, and Bruce Willis, along with improved designs for masked vigilante Snake Eyes (Ray Park) and the evil Cobra Commander. Trailers for the film have largely focused on the explosive set pieces and action sequences (which look pretty exciting), rather than the characters. Today’s batch of Retaliation photos offer a bit of both, as it were.

The Expendables 2

Sylvester Stallone has made good on his promise to round up just about every macho star of the 1980s and ’90s for the second Expendables flick (with the exception of Steven Seagal), including the Walker, Texas Ranger himself, Chuck Norris. There’s been some discrepancy about just how much hurt the sequel will bring – with Stallone promising a R-Rated product, possibly minus the foul language that Norris objected to – but the mere sight of so many action icons (like Norris – see below) sharing the big screen will be enough to get most people in theaters.

Piranha 3DD

Moviegoers hankering for a second round of sheer guilty pleasure can get that with this summer’s Piranha 3D sequel, a B-movie in every sense of the term. In case you somehow didn’t catch on after watching the red band trailer or finding out that the film’s cast includes people like Gary Busey and David Hasselhoff – or by just reading the double entendre title – the official posters for this second round of people vs. flesh-eating fish (see below) are pretty perfect visual representations that succinctly encapsulate what this movie has to offer. Enjoy.

Director Neil Jordan (Interview with the Vampire, Ondine) weaves another supernatural tale of woe with the upcoming Byzantium, which revolves around a vampiric mother-daughter pair – as portrayed by Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) and Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans), respectively – who hope to escape their dark and dangerous past by seeking refuge in a small coastal resort. Suffice it to say, those plans go awry.

Byzantium has yet to land an official theatrical release date here in the States. However, with a marketable cast and pristine creative talent (including Jane Eye screenwriter Moira Buffini, who adapted her own play) – and an eye-catching sales poster to boot (see below), that should change soon.

We will keep you posted on the status of Byzantium as more information is released.
