ghostbusters3 Ghostbusters 3 Could Be Filming By This Fall

When you’re Dan Akroyd you get used to the fact that no matter what you promote, you’ll eventually be asked questions about the impending future of Ghostbusters 3.  Recently, while promoting the opening of The House of Blues in Boston, Akroyd did an interview with the Boston Globe and answered some questions from the online community.

So, of course, one of the first questions asked had to deal with the questionable future of Ghostbusters 3Ain’t It Cool reported:

[Comment From Tom] Dan, I’m extremely excited for the HOB to be back in its birth-city!! I will be attending many shows. On a side note, and I’m sure you get these questions a lot, so I apologize in advance…Ghostbusters 3? I’ve heard that the writers of the Office are currently penning a script? How is this coming along, and should we look forward to this movie seeing the light of day? Thanks Dan!

Dan Aykroyd: Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009

So the script has been completed and we’re all just waiting to see if it gets the green light, which should happen around June. Taking into consideration how long people have been waiting for this and the potential it has for being huge, this could be awesome. Although depending on the script, this thing could end up like the Donnie Darko sequel and endure a quiet death – but let’s hope not.

Ghostbusters was definitely the film that structured my sense of humor and comedic timing as a child.  I have such great hopes the anticipated third addition to the Ghostbusters franchise that I feel like I am jinxing it by even being hopeful.

What do you think – would you like to see a new one or should they leave well enough alone?

  1. Please………..I want GB3…….pretty pretty please

  2. I would love to see a 3rd Ghostbusters as the original was one of the best comedies of the 80′s. That cast was perfect and I enjoy that movie to this day. I just hope it is not a reincarnation of Ghostbusters 2.

  3. as I enjoy 1 and 2 with my kids almost monthly (as it is there most asked for movie after The Incredibles). I for one had no problem at all with GB2, though I would like a nice mix of both in GB3.

  4. GB2 was TERRIBLE !
they better deliver a tight script for GB3!

  5. I remember the original GB was an event movie of the type akin to megasummer blockbusters and adjusted for inflation it’s gross from 1984 would be about 510 million today..right behind TDK..I loved the movie and Slimer was awesome!! Some little goober flying around and covering everybody in snot..I mean ectoplasm..what kid didn’t love that..I hope they do the third film justice!!

  6. I hear the writers of the office are writing the script now. Will see this movie, but really more looking forward to the PS3 game to come out already.

  7. It are great and fun films, I don’t think you can miss with a third one. If they can bring back the old original style I would love to see it!

  8. Oh, I believe that just watching the second one shows that it is very possible to miss with the third one.

Honestly, I’ve heard SO MANY BLOODY RUMORS on this in the GB community over the years, I’ve grown numb to it. Honestly, gimme the video game and I’m good for right now.

  9. Didn’t Aykroyd say that the upcoming video game WAS the third movie?

  10. i hope as long as they have the original cast and not just aykroyd

  11. Big love for Ghostbusters. Not just the movies, but loved the cartoon – the Real Ghostbusters – and even read some of the comics.

Maybe a third movie won’t be that good, but I’m willing to risk it. Think it would still be fun to see.
But the original cast and good writers would get me very excited.

  12. Yeah needs the original cast, and a good script and then… =)
This is definitely a good idea!

  13. It needs to be as awesome as the first or it needs not to be made :)
