‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ Image Gallery

Sony is in the midst of its marketing blitz for the comic book sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance – with multiple TV spots and featurettes having been released, in the hope of heightening anticipation for Nicolas Cage’s second round as the super-powered motorcyclist clad in (often, melted) black leather, Johnny Blaze.

You can check out more than a dozen images from the film by scrolling through the gallery above – or, continue on for more information (and early analysis) of the movie, along with higher-defintion versions of the above pics.

Spirit of Vengeance revolves around an older, wiser, and more subdued Johnny (Cage), who has been living in self-imposed exile in Romania, while he attempts to rid himself of the Ghost Rider curse. A mysterious warrior monk named Moreau (Idris Elba) says that if Johnny agrees to protect a young boy named Danny Ketch (Fergus Riordan) and his mother Nadya (Violante Placido) from the Devil (Ciarán Hinds) – who wants to use Danny as his new human vessel – then he will be forever free of his supernatural abilities.

Besides the in-demand Elba (Thor, this summer’s Prometheus) and the revered Hinds (Munich, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), the Spirit of Vengeance cast also includes fan-favorites like Highlander star Christopher Lambert as the tattooed (trecherous?) Methodius and Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as a fellow monk – along with Johnny Whitworth (3:10 to Yuma, Limitless) playing dual parts as the human criminal Carrigan, as well as the vicious supernatural creature Blackout.

Directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Gamer, Crank) have pulled out all the insane filmmaking stops for Spirit of Vengeance, which looks to feature loads of gritty action, ingeniously dangerous camerawork, and improved effects (when it concerns the Rider’s ability to unleash fiery mayhem upon his enemies). However, the film’s storyline reads as being as generic a variation on the “super-powered character must find the strength to be a true hero” narrative as they come – and, according to early screening reactions, it plays out that way too. Best to not expect much more than a pure shut-your-brain-off thrill ride here, for that reason.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance hits 2D and 3D theaters in the U.S. on February 17th, 2012.

  1. look at johnny’s fiery hair blowing in the wind

  2. no eva mendes in this1 =(( elba is a good addition tho and pics look pretty kool

    • No Eva Mendes? For me she was the only reason I partly enjoyed the first one.

  3. I thought his powers don’t work during the day?

    • @Alexander Von Rethrix Only in the first movie. Also this is a reboot/sequel

  4. I’ve always liked Nic Cage as Blaze. Cage picks some stinkers but he somehow fits the Ghost Rider character.

Ghost Rider & Blade (starring Cage and Snipes) that’s the movie I want.

    • Never thought of that, but that WOULD be a pretty cool crossover movie.

  5. If Marvel got the rights to Ghost Rider back there could be a great “avenger-esque” plan.
Blade, ghost rider, Morbius (is this a sony property?) Dr Strange and nightstalkers in Midnight Sons.

I know it’s been said before but it’d be real cool.

  6. I love how his jacket is effected by the heat in this!

  7. These pictures don’t exactly inspire confidence to be perfectly honest. It looks like a real low budget, direct to DVD film. The visual effects on the skull look horrid.

    • Yeah agreed that’s what I was trying to get at,the skull looks good though.

    • I wouldn’t trust STILL photographs to really show how it’ll look in the finished product. But I actually kind of like it. He looks intimidating.

  8. The Ghost Rider burning skull pics look like one of my hot-headed bosses at Wal-Mart where I work!
