Geez… Another Trailer: Casino Royale

May 3, 2006 by

I don’t know what’s going on all of a sudden with trailers to much-anticipated movies, but anyway… Here’s the first (English language) trailer for the upcoming James Bond flick Casino Royale.

Personally I think Daniel Craig really works as Bond, if for no other reason than he’s the first actor to portray 007 since Sean Connery that reminds me of, well, Sean Connery. To me, Connery will ALWAYS be the definitive on-screen James Bond, but Craig seems to have some of his old-time, rugged, man’s man presence.

  1. I’m also excited about Craig, although anything new would have been welcome after Die Another Day; it just seemed terribly derivative.

I’m having trouble hearing what Judi Dench is saying, though, in her second line. Is it just me, or is she using the f-word? So much for the green “approved for all audiences” screen.

  2. I also agree Vic, that what seems appealing about Craig is recalling of Connery’s ruggedness. When people talk about Bond they talk about suave and sophisticated, but I think one of the things that made Connery work so well was that he brought a grittiness to the role. His successors lacked this quality.

  3. Oooooohhh, she’s saying “thug”. Phew…

Now I can show it to my dad. :-)

  4. LOL.

  5. Yeah, I feel kinda silly now. They wouldn’t go that far with the new Bond anyway- it’s grittier, but still PG-13.

My family can’t get over Craig’s hair. Especially in the final “Craig’s officially the new bond” shot at the casino table. I don’t really have a problem with it, but my mom didn’t know what to make of it.

  6. Hair thing doesn’t bug me at all. I’m actually looking forward to this. Looks like a throwback to the first generation of Bond flicks, and that’s a good thing.

  7. I also love the Aston Martin! VROOM VROOM!
