The long-awaited second chapter of the Five Nights At Freddy's-esque, Poppy Playtime, has been released, though not without a fair few bugs (via ScreenRant). While avid gamers are working their way through these bugs, it doesn't mean that the issues are being glossed over. With the amount of power and teamwork that is needed to create games today, it's no surprise that some might have a few errors that might be fixed eventually down the line with some patches and updates.

However, some games just remain as buggy as when they're first launched or are so filled with issues that even when they're fixed that gamers don't return. Some games will come to suffer from game-breaking glitches or bugs that will crash your progress. Among the many buggy games that have been published over the years, these ultimately suffered poor sales due to their poor quality.

Ride To Hell: Retribution

After returning home from the Vietnam war, Jake Conway returns home, only for disaster to strike from a rival biker gang. Now on a quest for revenge, Jake will stop at nothing to exact his revenge during the glitchy road ahead.

Easily one of the buggiest games to ever grace the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, Ride to Hell: Retribution has remained one of the most broken and offensive games to the senses. And with the heavy negative response from critics, the game was panned with one GameFaqs forum having someone say that the game sold "27,000 copies" from a Gamestop source.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Roadmap 2022 Expansion Release Casino V Romances New Content

Set in the futuristic Night City, Cyberpunk 2077 introduced players to V, the protagonist who attempts to steal a new biochip. However, after being left for dead, they start to see and hear the digital ghost of Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) as he helps them on your quest to save the city.

Perhaps easily one of the most controversial releases, the game was buggy, glitchy, and nothing like the world that CD Projeck Red promised. In December 2020, the Metacritic score impacted the stock for the company by 9.4% and eventually saw the developer release multiple patches to improve the game's quality.

Haze

Haze on the PS3

Free Radical Design was no stranger when it came to FPS titles as they were responsible for the Time Splitters series. But taking a break away from their hit series, they worked on the futuristic shooter Haze which was released in 2008 on the PlayStation 3.

Unfortunately, the game's buggy and glitchy release impacted the quality that many would have expected from the British developer. Any plans to port this to other consoles were quickly diminished after the game sold less than 500,000 copies and with Fallout 3 released in the same year, it was ultimately forgotten after the release of games that followed in the Fallout franchise's steps.

Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric

Sonic, Tails and Amy are ready to battle in the Sonic Boom Game

To rebrand the iconic blue hedgehog, Big Red Button was tasked to create a new Sonic game to tie in with an animated series. With the Sega mascot redesigned alongside his friends, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was an attempt to create a potential new series of platform titles.

But the game was simply too buggy and broken to repair the damage and it impacted the potential of the Sonic Boom series. And with it being an exclusive Wii U title, poor sales for the console also played a huge factor, only earning 620,000 units alongside Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal on the 3DS in 2015. At least some fans enjoyed the tv show from this potential spin-off franchise.

Asphalt 3D

Asphalt 3D

The successor to the Nintendo DS, the 3DS featured one of the most unusual lineups of games with no Super Mario or Pokémon insight. But Ubisoft did provide some games for the handheld console's launch, one of them being the racing title Asphalt 3D.

Despite the attempts to fit a racing game on the tiny cartridge, the game suffered poor sales with the bugs impacting the gameplay with many critics sharing the same concern. The game ultimately sold just under 500,000 units, at least according to VGChartz's data.

Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 Update 3 changes to Specialists

Released last year, Battlefield 2042 looked set to bring the series to the future after the previous installments focussed on wars from the past. And with plenty of advertisement and a huge focus on multiplayer, the game looked set to be the next big potential hit for the Christmas holidays.

But the game didn't quite hit the top spot on the charts that fans and EA may have expected, being beaten by games like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl. And while the sales figures haven't been revealed, the number was "disappointing" to EA's CEO Andrew Wilson.

Fast & Furious Crossroads

fast and furious crossroads game delisted soon

Released in the summer of 2020 as the latest movie in the franchise, Fast & Furious Crossroads allowed the players to drive several cars and interact with Reddit users' favorite and best drivers from the box office smashing series. And with Slightly Mad Studios developing the game after their Project CARS titles, the game was sure to be in good hands.

But despite the attempts to fix some of the bugs in the game that caused issues with the players with update patches, it was too late. Last month, publisher Bandai Namco delisted the game from digital storefronts after a negative score on Metacritic, although their reasons for doing so have remained unclear.

Call of Duty: Vanguard

Call of Duty: Vanguard Campaign Levels & Achievements Leak

Going back to its World War 2 roots, Call of Duty: Vanguard looked like another promising and exciting entry into the series. With a dramatic multi-stranded story, multiplayer modes to play alongside your friends, and updates after the game's launch, it certainly had a lot to offer fans.

Despite the gameplay quality, the game ultimately suffered from poor sales and was 36% down from its predecessor, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. And while the game did feature bugs that saw players express their feelings online, it also didn't help that it was competing with the free-to-play Call of Duty Warzone.

WWE 2K20

A wrestler punches another wrestler in the ring from WWE 2K20

When it comes to video games, WWE had some of the best wrestling games under its belt. Fans voted on Ranker for the best WWE games, classic titles like WWE Smackdown! Here Comes The Pain and Smackdown Vs. Raw 2006, developers should know what makes these wrestlers and the sport so entertaining to translate to a controller.

And yet, Visual Concepts dropped the ball for WWE 2K20, despite many years of developing major sports games. The game's buggy release ultimately impacted the sales and Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of the game's publisher Take-Two Interactive, stated in an interview with Dualshockers that "WWE 2K20 did not meet our expectations, both in terms of sales and quality."

XIII

Based on the comic book series of the same name, the original game was going to be given a second lease on life after a remake was announced. Following the story from the comic's pages, a man with amnesia must uncover his secret past while avoiding danger lurking around every corner.

Arguably one of the worst remakes in video game history, 2020's XIII failed to hit the mark in the First Person Shooter market. Mixed with terrible audio quality and bad artificial intelligence from the NPCs, the original 2003 game easily outsold the less-than-stellar remake. It proves that just because something is newer, doesn't mean it's better.
