Though winter is here and war is erupting, Game of Thrones will still find time to explore the growing relationship between Missandei and Grey Worm. With season 7 of Game of Thrones right around the corner, more and more information regarding the upcoming batch of episodes is emerging. We've heard more about Sansa's arc and her quest for revenge. We've also learned about the big changes coming for Jon Snow in the season ahead.

Of course, with the latest trailer for the new season, there have been plenty of hints as to what we can expect. It's been clear from everything we've seen so far that war is on the horizon and it will be defining the new season. From the White Walkers to Dany's invasion, it's hard to imagine there will be much time for character development. That said, we've seen teases of some more intimate moments amidst the chaos, chief among them the continuation of Missandei and Grey Worm's relationship.

EW spoke with Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel about her character's arc this season, and the actor made sure to note that she and Grey Worm will find some time to be together.

“These two have always hidden behind their duty. But times like this where it’s not guaranteed they will even see each other again, where he might be killed and she might be … who knows … they’re having to confront their emotions and feelings to each other.”

Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei in Game of Thrones Season 7

As Emmanuel notes, it looks as if the urgency of war in the new season will help to drive the character's arcs. With so much at stake and the future uncertain, it makes sense that many of the players would find comfort together. Romance won't be the only development for Missandei, either. Thanks to her role as one of Dany's trusted advisors, it looks like the former slave will be stepping into her own this season.

“It’s the same thing every season: I don’t think [showruners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] can outdo themselves, and then they do. And the role that Missandei has been playing becomes ever more important because they’re facing war and potential death. Distractions aren’t really welcome, though Missandei has a few of her own.”

Though romance and responsibility will play a part in Missandei's new role, she'll also undergo a visual change. Photos from the upcoming season have already teased the new outfits the various protagonists will be wearing, and Emmanuel is quite fond of Missandei's updated look.

“[The costume] feels like a gladiator/Power Ranger.”

With season 7 premiering soon and the show headed to Comic-Con, we should learn a lot more about the future of the series shortly. Hopefully, Missandei will survive the journey.

Game of Thrones season 7 premieres on HBO on July 16th.
