[Warning: The following contains spoilers for the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale.]

-

Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke have shared their thoughts on the long-awaited Jon Snow (Harington) reveal from the Game of Thrones season 7 finale and speculated about how the news will impact the two characters' relationship in season 8. Ever since the Game of Thrones season 6 finale last year, book readers and viewers have been waiting anxiously for showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to finally confirm/reveal the last few pieces necessary to solving the mystery of Jon Snow's parentage. Fortunately, amongst many other, game-changing things, Game of Thrones' monumental season 7 finale managed to not only confirm that Rhaegar Targaryen is Jon's biological father, but also showed viewers Rhaegar and Lyanna's long-speculated secret marriage, and even revealed Jon Snow's original birth name.

As most Game of Thrones fans would agree - book readers or otherwise - that would have been more than enough to make the finale a notable one in this show's run. But in addition to all of that, the confirmation/reveal also came at the same time that Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen and Daenerys (Clarke) consummated their long-brewing, unspoken romance once and for all. However, as many viewers have already pointed out, their happiness may not last for long, especially once everyone becomes aware of Jon's claim as the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne.

While speaking with EW, Clarke and Harington talked about what they think Dany and Jon's reactions are going to be next season - when the two characters not only learn of Jon's true parentage and claim, but of their familial relationship to each other:

Clarke: “Ewwwww! [Laughs] I think that’s how it’s going to go. I get the toothbrush–[Pretends to frantically brush her tongue]... I’ve worked so hard, I don’t want to share that throne. No. The throne’s big enough for one dragon bum, and that’s mine. That’s it!”

Harington: "I said to Emilia it’s going to be a really cool scene when they find out... I can’t predict [how it'll impact their relationship]. It could be them walking off into the sunset. It could be them killing each other.”

Rhaegar and Lyanna secretely getting married in Game of Thrones

Jon and Daenerys' romantic relationship is something that fans - especially book readers - have known is coming for a long time now, and as such, a large portion of the show's seventh season was dedicated to building up their feelings towards each other. This was all happening while both Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) were coming closer and closer to uncovering the complete true story about Jon's secret birth in Dorne, adding a level of unpredictability to their relationship in the future.

Of course, that's just one more thing that fans have to worry about for Jon, Dany, and the rest of the show's heroes now. As the season 7 finale set-up/revealed, not only will the characters have to act fast in order to take down The Night King and his army of the dead - now that he's taken down The Wall - but are also unknowingly about to be stabbed in the back by the Lannister forces. With only six episodes left to go too, that should give the show's creative team more than enough conflict and plot hurdles to tackle before Game of Thrones reaches its inevitable conclusion.
