HBO has now officially released its trailer for Game of Thrones season 5 after a bootleg version began making the rounds earlier today. The new trailer first premiered in theaters accompanying the IMAX release of season 4's final two episodes, and reportedly those screenings have proven very successful, earning more in one evening than most IMAX screen debuts.

Yet, being teased with all season 5 has to offer has only made the wait until its April premiere become all the more unbearable. Until then, fans will have to be content with simply pouring over the trailer, examining every frame, and piecing together any clues they unearth. Once you've properly dissected the trailer, check out these new images - featuring faces both new and old - from Game of Thrones season 5 that HBO was also kind enough to share:

Of those characters we're already familiar with, it will be Varys, Tyrion, and Arya who have traveled farthest since we saw them last. All three will have headed across the Narrow Sea between seasons - Arya in Braavos, and Varys and Tyrion to Essos (on what could possibly be the series' best road trip since Arya and the Hound wandered throughout the Riverlands). Varys and Tyrion's destination? Meereen, where Daenerys continues to rule.

For those who stay in Westeros, matters won't be any easier. North at The Wall, Jon Snow will have to deal with not only wildlings but Stannis and his red lady, Melisandre. Podrick and Brienne will continue their quest to find Sansa, who at the moment is traveling with and being trained by, Littlefinger. And in King's Landing, Cersei and Jamie will be mourning their father's passing as well as dealing with the fallout from Tyrion's escape.

Cersei in particular will have a lot on her plate this season. Besides mourning her father's death, she'll be furious over Tyrion's escape and frightened that Margaery is turning her son, Tommen against her. We've already heard season 5 will use flashbacks for the first time, and as many suspect, they'll be used to give further insight into Cersei's ever-growing paranoia.

Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones

What's most interesting from this collection of images is the chance to see brand new characters joining Game of Thrones this season. Right at the top is Doran Martell, brother of Oberyn and prince of Dorne - the hot, desert region in the south of Westeros we've heard so much about but will finally get to visit in season 5.

Once in Dorne, audiences will be introduced to Oberyn's daughters, the Sand Snakes who want revenge for their father's murder, as well as Areo Hotah, captain of the guards. And - in one of many changes being made from its source material - it appears Jamie will also travel south, and there's no doubt having a Lannister in Dorne is sure to stir up trouble.

Lastly, season 5 will also introduce veteran actor Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow, the newly elected leader of the Faith of the Seven. As his name and dress surely imply, the High Sparrow's leadership of the church will differ greatly from previous High Septons. No longer concerned with material riches, the High Sparrow's rise to power will give way for a more radical and almost militant Faith of the Seven to emerge.
