  1. That guy who plays the purple man was just terrible!

    • Pretty bad. And the plea to Marvel to cast him just made the whole thing sad and desperate.

      • Right on!

Of course, now we’ll be waiting for your film.

CUz naturally you can do lots better, right?

Anyway that fan film was pretty cool. And the Purple Man was very good. Whatever issues you have with are your issues, not the actor’s. The film had very solid production qualities & strong performances.

        • is that you purple man?

        • Strong production values? Dude, the whole thing was shot in a parking lot! But that’s not even the issue, the main cop was actually pretty good and his partner was okay but the purple man wasn’t! And I never said I could do better, I probably couldn’t that’s why you don’t see me on youtube trying to play a Marvel character!

          • Agreed, anyone can get hold of an HD camera these days and shoot in an empty parking lot, which is good, it’s just that the guy playing Purple Man seemed a little…..hammy?

I assume Karmick really might be the actor in that short movie and if so, my advice would be to dial it back. That performance felt more like an ironic method of over-acting (think Gary Oldman in The Fifth Element) more than a genuinely charming villain (a la Sir Anthony Hopkins in Silence Of The Lambs).

That’s the thing I’ve noticed with most amateur actors who try to portray characters like that, they either slip into Heath Ledger’s Joker or Macauley Culkin’s Kevin McAllister, neither of which do the actor or the character any justice at all.

Next time, try to be a little more subtle and a little less wide-eyed and maniacal. Try looking at the way Aiden Gillan plays a scheming yet charming character as Lord Petyr Baelish in Game Of Thrones, someone with ambition who keeps that ambition hidden to be able to plot in the shadows without raising suspicion. That’s the kind of performance I think The Purple Man should have, blending in and subtly turning people into his puppets without anyone being aware of it and without the “look how insane I am” facial expressions used in this short film.

It would also have been kind of nice to see the character as someone who accidentally interrupted the conversation between those two detectives, gave the excuse he was just going to his car and then manipulates them from there instead of being so blatant about announcing himself as the villain in his first appearance and being allowed to monologue when the one detective had ample opportunity to try and shoot and subdue him. Again, it would’ve helped show Purple Man as a manipulative and shadowy villain instead of a megalomaniac who likes to reveal himself in a well lit area that possibly has security cameras dotted all over, meaning people will know who he is and what he looks like rather than continuing as a myth mentioned before people took their own lives.

The cutaway to show him in the bedroom also was unnecessary and borderline corny. I think it would have been better to have him shown as the detective’s superior at the station, which would not only allow him access to citywide information but also show how deeply he’s integrated himself to hide his true nature.

            Hope that helps.

  2. Germany v Ghana was insane !!!

First half was a snooze. Second half was electric ! 4 goals in 20 minutes . Absolute cracker of a game.
Group G is wide open. USA might just pass the group stages.

Spain, England & Socceroos are going home.
