Game of Thrones┬áhas caught on like wildfire. These days it’s hard to walk the streets for long before you run across somebody with their face buried in one of the volumes from author George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice┬áseries. If you don’t run across somebody reading the books, then there’s still good chance they’re a fan of HBO’s adaptation of the series, which enjoyed a well-received first season, and is currently shooting a highly-anticipated second season.

HBO knows that Game of Thrones fandom is at a rabid high right now, as there was a massive amount of buzz surrounding a season 2 teaser trailer for the show that released a few months back. And all that trailer did was announce when the show would return.

Today we have a new Game of Thrones season 2 trailer to share – one that focuses on the production of the show, with a few choice looks at some of the characters and new lands that will be visited in the new season. As one of the producers says in the video below, “the world just expanded enormously.”

Check out some of the new things that await us in Game of Thrones season 2:

It’s good to see familiar characters like Ayra Stark (Maisi Williams), Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Cersei Lannister (Lena Heady), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Lord Baelish (Aidan Gillen), and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), along with glimpses of new characters (or those not yet fully explored) such as Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane), the sorceress Melisandre (Carice van Houten), Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) and the fearsome Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance who surely needs more screen time this season).

Though this production trailer is very careful about what it shows, fans of the books will be able to pick out some of the scenes featured in the second volume of the novels, A Clash of Kings. That title alone should be a clue to what this new season will entail – sounds like King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) won’t hold his throne as easily as he hoped…

Game of Thrones season 2 will premiere on HBO in April of 2012.

  1. April cannot come fast enough.

  2. Seriously best new show this year! Once Upon a Time is filling my void until Games returns :)

  3. Stannis no beard = dealbreaker

  4. Yeah Man.. I wouldve loved to see Mark Strong as Stannis. But I hear this guy is a Top Notch actor. When you think about it, Stannis is a pretty two-dimensional character, a bit like Rorschach. So not much is needed. But I cant wait!!!!

  5. Bad fantasy. Sad they didn’t do Wheel of Time or something else. There’s so much more out there more worthy than this convoluted mess.

    • Wheel of Time would be a good one also, but I’m just glad something like this can be created and people are actually watching it. The more popular fantasy stuff becomes the better chance we will have for something like Wheel to be created.

  6. It’s just me or the video is down ?
