[Possible SPOILERS for Game of Thrones season 7 ahead.]

-

The filming of HBO's Game of Thrones much-anticipated season 7 is almost at a close. With the on-location shooting in various European countries complete, the production has transferred to their Belfast-based studio, presumably to focus on the show's celebrated VFX. This however, does not mean glimpses of this tantalizing fantasy production process are over for curious fans; there are still some clues to be revealed.

The latest fan-captured images from the massive production could actually be teasing something Game of Thrones fans have been eagerly awaiting for several seasons -an epic dragon battle!

The vast narrative of Game of Thrones began to entwine its complex web of character factions together during season six, setting the stage for inevitable violent conflicts expected to take place over the remaining two seasons. The recent plot developments, the ambitious use of SFX to date and hints from the show's cast, suggest that the show's creators aim to exceed the visual spectacle that viewers have already witnessed, in seasons past. Filming for Game of Thrones season 7 is known to have taken place in Iceland, Croatia, and Spain - where a large action sequence was shot.

Game of Thrones community site Watchers On The Wall has reported the latest images captured (by a Belfast local) outside the show's studio there. The first image looks to be a green screen scene prepped for shooting in the studio's outdoor space. The chunky, greened out prop revealed may not look like much, were it not for the climbing aids that can be seen dotting the sides. Could this be an even larger Drogon torso ready for Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) to mount for a dragon riding scene? (See the photos below for more.)

Due to the filming location, present cast members and action witnessed by onlookers on location in Spain, fans (and Watchers On The Wall) have speculated that this scene could be a Targaryen vs, Lannister battle, with Daenerys facing off against Jamie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Any such battle would no doubt involve Daenerys dragon riding - which could relate to the large, oddly shaped prop seen in Belfast.

Having utilized Dany's show-stopping dragon riding in season 6, it is highly likely that this will also be a feature of Game of Thrones season 7, and that these VFX-requiring scenes will indeed be achieved in the studio. Whether or not fans theories about the battle details are correct, these hints do suggest that dragon battles will take place and the size of the big green prop teases that Drogon has possibly grown even more from the last time that we last saw him.
