It has been confirmed that Game of Thrones cast members Kit Harington and Rose Leslie are engaged. The seventh season of HBO's mega-hit series just concluded a few weeks ago to great response from both critics and general audiences. Created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, Game of Thrones - based on George R. R. Martin's bestselling fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire - is a TV series unlike any other. While there have been many great TV series in the past and present, none scream event television like Game of Thrones.

While Game of Thrones consists of many spectacular Lord of the Rings-esque cinematic action set pieces, Direwolves and fire breathing dragons, the personal relationships between the characters - both romantic and otherwise - are just as engrossing. What makes these relationships standout is the fact that none of them are throwaway fillers, but are integral to the story. The relationship between Robb and Talisa Stark led to one of the most shocking and traumatic moments in television history, famously known as The Red Wedding. The incestuous relationship between Cersei and her twin brother Jamie crippled Bran Stark, sending him on a journey that led to him becoming the Three-Eyed Raven. And the relationship between Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ygritte (Rose Leslie) helped Jon understand the Wildlings. This relationship also birthed one of the more popular quotes from Game of Thrones -- "You know nothing, Jon Snow." They say life imitates art. In this case, that holds true, as Jon Snow and Ygritte's relationship has translated to real life.

After much speculation about the couple's relationship status, an official announcement was published in The Times newspaper (as seen in the picture below).

The pair made their first public appearance as a couple at last year's Olivier Awards to the delight of Game of Thrones fans all over the world. Last year, Harrington told L'Uomo Vogue that's it's easy to fall in love if you're already attracted to someone and they happen to play your on-screen love interest. When asked about his best memory on the show, Harrington said:

"The three weeks in Iceland when we were shooting the second season. Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love."

While other Game of Thrones co-stars have dated in real life, Harrington and Leslie would be the first to tie the knot, and maybe not the last. Game of Thrones stars Harrington, Lena Heady, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams, among a larger ensemble cast.
