Bad news for all you Braime shippers out there, as Nikolaj Coster-Waldau doesn't think his character Jaime will get together with Brienne in Game of Thrones. With just 13 episodes left before HBO's Game of Thrones comes to an end, there's a lot of twists, turns, and deaths that could still occur before everything is said and done. Throughout all of the murder and madness, however, the show has occasionally sprinkled in some humor and romance to lighten the mood. From Tyrion's ribald jests to the woman Robb Stark was willing to die for, Game of Thrones has been known to pause the savagery from time to time.

Even with the threat of dragons and White Walkers descending on Westeros, season 7 of Game of Thrones will still spend some time on more intimate character moments. Missandei and Grey Worm, for instance, will get some focus put on their burgeoning relationship in the upcoming episodes. For fans who have long been hoping that the hot-and-cold chemistry between Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister would turn into anything more concrete, it doesn't seem likely.

Variety spoke with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau on their podcast Remote Controlled and asked the actor if he thinks there's a possibility of Jaime and Brienne getting together in the final batch of episodes for Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem too sure:

“I think they have this real affection for each other, and respect, and most importantly, they have real trust. [But] do they have romantic feelings for each other? I don’t think he’s really capable of [that]. Unless he’s able to completely leave Cersei, I don’t [think] that’s gonna happen. I think he’s a very monogamous man. He’s faithful.”

As Coster-Waldau admits, there's a real bond between Jaime and Brienne that speaks to a deep and hard-earned respect and friendship. Naturally, fans usually interpret that to mean sexual tension, but it looks as if things are merely platonic between the two. That said, the actor does have a theory about his eventual death that involves the Warrior Maid:

“There’s been these moments where a fire plays a big part of the show, but also in his storyline. So, I could imagine that one of those dragons would just roast him. Or like a Romeo and Juliet thing. He kills either Cersei, and then he kills himself, or Brienne kills him. That’s very romantic. I think it’s gonna be less romantic, though.”

Maybe all of Coster-Waldau's theories will come true and Brienne will ride in on a dragon and burn Jaime alive right after he kills Cersei. Of course, that seems about as likely as a romance between the two former companions.

Sadly, more and more potential relationships for Brienne have been shot down. Both the showrunners of Game of Thrones and Gwendoline Christie herself have nixed the possibility of Tormund and Brienne winding up together. With all sorts of interesting character meet-ups on the horizon, however, maybe an unexpected pairing will emerge.
