While war rages this season on Game of Thrones, the actors couldn't be having more fun as evidenced by new behind-the-scenes photos. As is always the case with HBO's hit show, this season of Game of Thrones has been brutal and violent. And while no main characters have yet died, the safety they've experienced has only added to the tension heading into the finale. For a show that prides itself on shocking deaths, it feels like it's only a matter of time before a beloved character meets their end.

Luckily, things aren't quite so dismal and dreary on the set of Game of Thrones. While the story that's crafted and presented is dark and full of terrors, the long run of the show has brought the actors quite close together. As such, fans are often given intriguing glimpses behind the scenes in which actors are brought together in uncharacteristic moments of merriment. Just yesterday, we were treated to a video of Rory McCann (The Hound) and Kristofer Hivju (Tormund) singing on set. Now we have a few more candid shots from in between takes.

TV Insider have a handful of new images that take audiences behind the scenes of Game of Thrones' seventh season. The first shot is the most enjoyable, showing Lena Heady (Cersei) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) sharing a laugh during the filming of a typically tense scene for the twins/lovers. There's also a number of other behind-the-scenes looks at different moments from the past six episodes, which you can check out in the gallery below:

Along with the shot of Heady and Coster-Waldau, there's an image of Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) cracking up in Winterfell, a shot of Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) avoiding the rain at Dragonstone, John Bradley-West (Samwell) and Iain Glen (Jorah) shooting their grayscale removal scene, and Pilou Asbæk (Euron) getting his bloody makeup reapplied for his raid on the Greyjoy fleet.

All told, the levity and lack of tension is a nice break from the violent and twisting seventh season. They aren't the only images we've been treated to recently, however. In anticipation of the finale, HBO put out a batch of photos from this Sunday's episode that highlight the returning players and the meeting between Cersei's forces and Dany's. With the seventh season finale the longest episode in the history of the show, there will be lots of time for some major character deaths and a few emotional gut punches. When they occur, remembering Christie's smiling face may just help fans get through it all.
