Congratulations! If GR is as informative and useful as this site, it will be an easy success.

Great news I’m a hardcore gamer and I love screen rant so for me this is great news.

Mandarr says:

Very cool! I’ve bookmarked the site and will give ya’ll my opinions on games here and there in the comment areas. Thanks for giving us another source for gaming info!

Ed Castle says:

i hope you guys arent going to be like the rest of the game industry! by that i mean biased towards anything and everything Wii.

Ed Castle says:

nevermind! just went to the site and wii is last in line and theres no news about the game that WILL outsell MW2! New Super Mario Bros. Wii!

no worries i still like screen rant.

Ken J says:

LOL, yah, and they put PC, the one with the best graphics, AFTER the handhelds like PSP and DS, as if it is some obscure gaming platform… Pretty much shows you their preference order, oh well, we don’t run the site.

I would have thought it more logical to group them by category, like those capable of playing full graphics games first, then handhelds, then mobile. Like:
PC – Xbox 360 – PS3 – Wii – PS2 – PSP – DS – Mobile

That would have been how I would order them, or even if you prefer the consoles, then fine, switch up the consoles in that first group so it’s Xbox360 or PS3 first and second, the PC, then the same order afterward, but putting PC and Wii way after the handhelds, that’s a statement being made right there, lol. Oh well, like I said, we don’t run the site, so can’t exactly tell them what to do with it, haha. They obviously like their Xbox360 and PS3 more. :-)

Joshi says:

The PC thing is kinda annoying… I mean not in the way that it’s disruptive any, it’s not terribly hard for me to move my mouse those few extra millimetres to hit the PC tab. But it would suggest that it’s not thought of in the same regard as the consoles.

That is, of course, before you actually look at the PC section and see it’s as well covered as the console section. Personally I’m not a console user (never bothered to buy one, I find high end PC’s are worth the money since they can do a whole lot more than just play games) so I’m likely not going to be looking at that section a whole lot, but the PC section seems to be updated every day, so they’re not neglecting it.

I’m not sure what you guys are talking about when it comes to grouping and order. There’s no hidden meaning behind the nav order – I just looked at other sites and grouped/ordered them according to what seemed to be platform popularity and similarity between platforms.

Vic

Ken J says:

@Joshi

The thing is, almost all of the games come out on all systems with a few exceptions, including PC, so those stories will appear on any of the sections you click. I’m not saying as if I’m not going to the site anymore because of it, I’m completely used to it. You and I are in the minority, consoles are dominating now, it’s the “hip” thing now. So whether or not they are prioritizing them or not, doesn’t really matter, was just making an observation.

@Vic

Yah, but that’s the thing. What’s the similiarty between a PC and the Wii and the handhelds? I would have thought in terms of games the PC would be more like the Xbox360 and PS3… Like Gamespot, their order is more like how I would imagine it. The “main” systems in front that can play full graphics games, meaning Xbox360, PS3, PC, and Wii even though the graphical power is less, it’s still a “main” system. Then the handhelds, then mobile. I can’t really find the logic of the current order unless someone was trying to say something. Because no way the Wii is less popular than the handhelds for example. And no way the DS is less popular than the PSP. And the PC being after the handhelds, how is that grouped by similarity??

Anyway Vic, don’t get me wrong, I’m not “complaining” just making an observation. I’m going to the site regardless, I know it’s not my site so I don’t exactly have a say in how you guys make it, so it’s all gravy, just making conversation with people here, not trying to demand anything at all. :-)

Joshi says:

@Ken

Yeah, that’s true, few games made for consoles aren’t ported to PC (though I was really annoyed when I found out I wouldn’t be able to play Brutal Legend without a console). and I guess there are very few games out there exclusively for the PC (although I have seen a couple of WoW articles, and if I were still a player, I’d read em :p) except for some RTS’s and sim-type games, so I suppose the majority would be cross posted.

Ken J says:

I personally feel that WoW has helped to slowly kill PC gaming from the inside. People are spending all of their money on the monthly fee for WoW and I heard it takes up a lot of their time. So their time and money is poured into this game that has probably made the company bazillions in profits, and they haven’t spent a dime on making the graphics of the game at least not so atrocious… What a return of your investment…

Ed Castle says:

if you were smart what you would have done with GR is separate it from all the other biased game site and make it more for the expanded audiences instead you made another site for the “Hardcore” gamers.

there is so much ground that could be had if you made the first game site thats not just for the halo/call of duty gamer.

you do know the best selling games ever made are the marios,pokemon,and wii sports/fit games. im not saying not to cover the hd twins because i love them also but do be like the other guys and treat the wii like the step kid.

there should be NEW SUPER MARIO Wii review up and gamplay video and more.

my two cents.

Joshi says:

@Ken

Wow’s graphics weren’t that bad if you had a decent enough computer (as with any game). And plus, as any gamer would tell you, it’s not always about the graphics, the immersive gameplay alone was enough to keep people in and players didn’t so much ask for better graphics as they did for more content, which they got.

But yes, it was a huge time hog, the main reason I stopped playing was because I almost literally had time for nothing else. Want to play another game? Nope, got a raid tonight. Wanna work on that project you’ve been thinking about for the past month… nope, I’d rather score some achievements on the battleground.

I got out of it about 6 months ago and haven’t looked back.

Ken J says:

I know it’s not all about the graphics, my point is that for all of the money they were getting, you would think that they would be able to hire a few people to do some decent texture work. But instead, that money simply went straight into their pockets then they laughed all the way to the bank.

I’ve played it on my friend’s account, it’s not that “immersive.” A bunch of dorks running around as weird magical creatures talking about raiding castles and doing quests, then they force you to watch your character fly around on some eagle instead of just letting you teleport to the next town like almost all other games let you do. No doubt just to eat up more of your time…

No thanks, I wouldn’t pay for the game once, much less every month… But that’s just me. And sorry, but the graphics DO suck, if I wanted cartoony flat textures on everything and blocky geometry I’ll turn the clock back about 15 years…

Just my opinion of course. A lot of people love it, I just can’t see why…

Joshi (work) says:

@Ken

Well, again (and I know it sounds like I’m defending this game when really I don’t much care for it anymore), they spent that money on new content for the game (and yes, some of it went into their pockets), and with a game as huge as that, people were prepared to let the graphics go in order for better gameplay.

And immersion’s pretty much down to the person, if thatkind of content isn’t your kind of thing then yes, it won’t be that much fun for you (and travelling is and always has been the most annoying part of the game, you can teleport if you are or you know a mage, but otherwise, yes, lots of flying).

Again, not trying to defend the game, much like arguing with people on the internet, it was the biggest waste of time I’ve ever encountered.

Ken J says:

@Joshi

I’m sorry, but adding a bit of land, some new enemies, and a few more quests every few months doesn’t cost them that much money. Try to consider that they had what, hundreds of thousands of players? Maybe over a million players paying $15 per month, not including those paying for the game brand new, how much do you really think adding a bit more content costs them? They could have easily hired 3 more people in the graphics department and it wouldn’t even be a dent in their profits, but they knew they didn’t need to because the players kept paying and never complained. It’s just the complete lack of effort that I’m pointing out. The new content they knew they had to release little by little to keep the people paying, lol.

Oh well, can’t blame them, profit without effort is the best kind of profit. It’s just too bad that the entire PC market had to suffer for it…

Joshi says:

@Ken

Again, not trying to defend, I’m just pointing out. ;)

Ken J says:

@Joshi

Yah, I know, I just really really really do not understand the obsession with that stupid game, lol.

Joshi says:

People get obsessed with different things, we can’t always hope to understand them. ;)

@Ed Castle

That’s really good feedback, thanks.

Ed Castle says:

sorry if i came off a little rude just think more gaming media should open there eyes.
heres an example of why gaming media is flawed.

the gaming media wants to be treated like hollywood and want games to be like hollywood. so lets say they were one and the same(they arent and will never be).
modern warfare 2/Halo is like your transformers/twilights. sure they make huge amounts of money and are loved by your 13 to 35 age group but they arent anything to write home about. you arent going to get the best representation of “games” wit those games.
you wouldent use the titles above as the epitome of ether art form.

now take something like Metroid Prime or something as simple as Super Mario Bros. the latter would be considered the greatest achievement in the art form and prime would be a prime (no pun intended) example of a game that captures the sense of huge and epic scale but didnt blow the box office away like your halos/mw2 yet still could go to the oscars and win over the 2.

see if hollywood were like gaming it would have been transformers getting 11 oscars over the lord of the rings. the gaming media only want to report and accept the games with the more vocal fans aka the “hardcore gamer”.
yet at the end of the day the game you me and your grandma love will be given negative press/reviews. why you ask? well because its not hardcore! because we (the gaming media/forum posters) dont want anyone enjoying our hobby!

would the new york times give a movie like wall e a bad review because moms,dads,children,and grandmas all over the world can enjoy the film? NO! why because movies are and can be for everyone. so why not gaming? why is it that gaming has to be so niche and riddled by close minded folk?

those same people later will publish a article asking why is gaming so limited and treated like a lesser art form than movie/books/music?

sorry for going on another rant…..this will be the last one promise.

my point is try and keep an open mind and dont fall into the same pit with all other gaming media. i will bookmark the site in hopes that you guys/girls be the trend setters.
