Final ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4 Trailer: Welcome to the New World

Published 1 year ago by

Westeros invaded New York last night, as a brand-new episode of Game of Thrones was shown at the Avery Fisher Hall, ahead of the fourth season’s premiere on HBO in less than three weeks. To further commemorate the occasion, yet another trailer – the fourth in total – for the show’s new season was unveiled online; it features plenty in the way of previously-unseen footage, accompanied by yet another haunting tune with “Devil Inside” (performed by London Grammar).

It’s not just real-world Thrones fans who are still reeling from “The Red Wedding” in season 3; the repercussions of that gruesome event continue to reveal themselves, in the actions and behavior of the surviving players around Westeros.

Well, that is with the exception of Dany (Emilia Clarke), who’s still on the other side of the world – and has enough on her plate as is, between dealing out justice as she sees fit (“Let the priests argue over good and evil.”) and maintaining control over her rapidly-growing, fire-breathing “children.”

Meanwhile, a physically – and, to some degree, spiritually – changed Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is a new variable in the game at King’s Landing; he looks to stir things up even more within the already-tense ranks of his family. If that wasn’t enough, there is also the addition of dubious newcomer Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne (Pedro Pascal), a.k.a. “The Red Viper”, whose trailer line that “The Lannisters aren’t the only ones who pay their debts” feels as much like a threat as it does a promise.

Elsewhere, as the latest season 4 trailer reminds us, the remaining Stark offspring (that includes Jon Snow (Kit Harington)) are spread out across the land and getting up to their own various (mis)adventures – good thing too, since their lives are now in greater danger than ever. Indeed, nobody’s ever been truly “safe” on Game of Thrones, but the marketing for this season in particular has been driving that point home harder than past seasonal hype-building campaigns.

Season 4 is certainly poised to be both Thrones‘ most visually-impressive and action-packed season thus far, with the show’s already-sizeable budget having been increased to cover the expenditures from designing innumerable costumes and props, as well as the construction of detailed sets in remote areas within countries like Iceland and Ireland.

Of course, that wouldn’t matter so much if viewers weren’t already heavily invested in the lives of so many members of the show’s vast, vast character ensemble. (Well, except for Joffrey, that is.) Similarly, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are gearing up to pitch even more curveballs at Game of Thrones fans this season; that includes mixing things up from the bookspossibly in a way that makes things more cohesive story-wise (compared to how author George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire source novels unfold at this stage).

Game of Thrones season 4 premieres on HBO on April 6th, 2014.

  1. So excited for this only a few weeks to go.

  2. Song is actually a cover of the INXS late 1980s song of the same name. A rather poor one too.

    • Yes, it’s a cover of the INXS song, but it definitely isn’t poor. You’re probably going to be in the minority on that one. London Grammar is already getting a lot of attention for the cover.

    • Agreed!

  3. That moment of Daenerys and her dragon next to her (the size of that thing!), that alone, is worth putting on my desktop… and it still wouldn’t give it justice.

  4. can someone tell me in a paragraph or so what all happens in season 3? i travel alot for my job and i didnt get to catch season 3, loved the 1st 2 seasons but i want to know all the main plots of season 3 so i can catch season 4

    • Go to Game of Thrones Youtube channel and search for the Season 3 recap. They just uploaded within the past couple days.

    • You’ll want to probably try and find episode recaps over an overall season recap. A lot happened. A lot.

    • * The Night’s Watch turned on each other and Sam escaped with one of Craster’s daughters and her child to head back to Castle Black

      * Jon joined the Wildlings then made his escape back to Castle Black after refusing to kill an innocent man once they’d climbed The Wall

      * Dany gained a few new allies, including her father’s former advisor, an assassin and an army of her own called The Unsullied after buying them and using them to help free a city

      * Jaime was escorted by Brienne towards Kings Landing, was captured by Roose Bolton’s men and had his right hand cut off before managing to talk Roose into freeing Brienne when he was sent on his way back to the Lannisters

      * Roose’s son Ramsay Snow is the one who captured Theon and has subsequently tortured and castrated him for his own amusement and renamed him Reek

      * Arya Stark met the Brothers Without Banners, who captured The Hound and sent him off to die until he escaped with Arya and promised to take her to her mother. They got to The Twins moments after The Red Wedding and Arya was quickly escorted away by The Hound before she was recognised.

      * Roose betrayed the Starks at The Twins and allowed them all to be murdered at the wedding he should’ve been the groom for when he promised to marry someone then failed to keep that promise. Robb’s body was beheaded and his dire wolf’s head sewn onto the body before being proudly shown off while Catelynn had her throat cut.

      * Sansa got closer to the Tyrells and was also told by Lord Baelish to accompany him where she will be same from Joffrey, wanting to go before Joffrey’s marriage to Margaery Tyrell. Sansa was also forced to marry Tyrion Lannister.

      * Tyrion was replaced as Hand by his father Tywin, who organised The Red Wedding in order to wipe out the Starks and put an end to the war.

      * Joffrey is still a psychopathic little *bleep* and murdered one of Baelish’s “girls” with his crossbow for fun. Cersei admitted that she prefers to remember Joffrey as an innocent baby and not the monster he’s become.

      • *safe

    • Wow, that was a lot of effort to help you out buddy, all for nothing it seems. The comment never posted.

I recommend finding the video mentioned above then.

      • Never mind the above comment, sorry everyone. Thanks Paul.

  5. Yeeeeeaaahh another trailer fail. Posting the finale for teh lose.

  6. thanks Dazzz for the summary, so out of all the Starks who is still alive? just Arya and Jon Snow??

  7. Sansa one of the starks I hate the most.

Rickon who seems kind of pointless, Bran who will be developing more abilities, & Catelyn Stark is mostly dead… but pulls a Jesus thanks to Dondarrion.

Jon Snow well to be honest I suspect he’s a Targaryen if not a true heir of the former king his old friend. He never really establishes where he came from so its a possibility.
