Game of Thrones Season 3 Teaser Trailer

Published 1 year ago by

Slowly but surely the time to journey back to Westeros is approaching and HBO is enticing weary fans with a glimpse of Game of Thrones season 3 via a brand new teaser trailer.

The trailer doesn’t give much away or show any new forthcoming characters, but it is eerie and somewhat foreboding, focusing on the creepy three-eyed Raven flying over modern real-world cities, with the tagline “Their world returns to ours.

For those who might have forgotten, the three-eyed raven first appeared to young Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) in his dreams, after he was placed in a coma from being pushed out of a castle tower. After that, Ol’ Three-Eyes was seen various times aiding Bran via his subconscious – including the last time, when the tricloptic bird led him to the Stark family crypt right before the death of this father, Eddard (Sean Bean).

In the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ book series on which Game of Thrones is based on, three-eyed crow (rather than a raven) is famous for (among other things) telling Bran to fly by screeching the words “fly or die!”.

In another nod to the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ source material, the trailer also features a grim baritone singing of ‘The Rains of Castamere’ – a song written about Lord Tywin Lannister’s crushing victory of the rebellious House Reyne of Castamere. The song was also included in the TV series in a scene from season 1, episode 9, in which Bronn (Jerome Flynn) drinks and sings with his men outside the Red Keep.

The third season will be based on the third book in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, ‘A Storm of Swords’ and will introduce a long list of new characters, including Diana Rigg as Olenna (Redwyne) Tyrell, the “Queen of Thorns” and Ciarán Hinds as Mance Rayder, the famed Wildling “King-Beyond-The-Wall”.

  1. The Rains of Castamere by The National, Love it,, counting down the days for the return of Game of Thrones

  2. CAN`T WAIT! I love that show. I`m gonna re-watch the first 2 seasons this weekend I think.

  3. Never mentioned that raven had 3 eyes !

    • Who never mentioned that the raven had 3 eyes?

      • I think he might be using sarcasm. Since they pretty much call it the Three Eyed Raven each time Bran refers to it which is to say many.

  4. My favourite show on TV along with Breaking Bad, can’t wait until season 3 starts. If it’s anything like the book, then it should be the best season yet.

    • Well, considering this season will only be about half of the book, I’m not so sure. I’ve only read three of the books, but I found the second half of the third book much more thrilling, since a lot of exciting things happened, unlike the first half. But I’m sure it will go out with a bang… or in other words, a wedding!

      • why say that? spoiler d*** much?

        • That’s not even a bad spoiler. Calm down.

  5. I saw the first episode, hated it. Wanting to give it another try, thought it showed to much nudity for no reason, but some people got me to rethink about it. I’ve heard it’s good, but either way, Breaking Bad is still the best,

    • That comment is wrong on so many levels…

      • its a time warp !

  6. screenrant is a bit late to post the trailer on here eh

  7. I’m on book 5 now, A dance with dragons… and so far, book 3 a storm of swords is by far the best. But again, I haven’t finished 5 yet. I think Martin said he suspects book 6 the winds of winter to be done sometime in 2015.

Good to see Bran’s destiny unfolding, yeah… and the wedding… ugh. I’ll say no more.

    • Same here, still reading A Dance With Dragons. I would agree that SoS was the best book so far, I can’t even list all the moments I’m looking forward to seeing on the screen. Especially excited to see certain…weddings.
      Pigeon pie, anyone?

  8. why a modern world?

    • I think to go along with the tag line at the end of the trailer, “Their world returns to ours.” Hence the three eyed raven (their world) flying through modern day London (our world). At least thats what I thought was the reasoning behind the modern world backdrop. Also, not sure if that’s London used in trailer, but it looked like to me.

  9. Looks awesome! Who is not excited about this starting up.
The wonderful Gwendoline Christie looks like she’s up for a role in the next Hunger Games movie! http://mockingjaycast.wordpress.com/
    Wooooootttttt!

  10. uggghhhhh! can’t wait!!!

  11. How was this a Teaser Trailer? They didn’t show anything. I can’t wait for March!

  12. I love Game Of Thrones! Am dying to see season 3 , have watched the others over many times. I think it’s the best new series out. Keep them coming.
