As you said Mr. Keyes, Gambit does not belong in this film. Unless they do some magical writing it will be completely unrealistic and just end up with Marvel trying to write in popular characters that they failed to put into the rest of the Franchise. I’m curious as to how they’ll fit someone from the Den of Thieves in Louisianan into the Weapon X project in Alberta.

I disagree with your opinion of Wolverine though. In Wolverine and the X-Men he still goes off on tangents and does his own thing, although he’s trying to change that to become a better leader. That’s part of the conflict whenever Rogue comes by and Logan’s gone. I don’t mind him developing into more a leadership role. Characters change over time.

All in all though I have rather low expectations for this film. It will likely end up being an over-hyped mish-mash of things that don’t belong together and ultimately screw up characters and story-line (much like X-3). I do hope I’m wrong though.

Gambit is one of my very favorite characters and I must admit that I’m a little worried they’re going to screw up the character. Personally I think if they would just stick to the source material or at least the cartoon series they could have a character that could steal the show and possible end up with his own spin-off. I just hope and pray that Gambit acts like the Remy LeBeau that I know and love.

Alright so I have to get this off my chest first of all. I hate the movies. I just couldn’t get over the mess they made of Rogue…She was lacking in almost all Rogue like aspects… So I was terribly disappointed when I saw the first movie and there was no Jubilee (well Marie sort of felt more like Jubilee then Rogue but whatever) and no Gambit. I mean, these were big characters…I really hope they get Gambit close to perfect. Accent, power sounds, the whole shebang. As is, after watching the trailer, My hopes aren’t to high…

Destruconaught says:

Personally I own the 1991 Weapon X series.

I can’t imagine them sticking to that story. It wasn’t play time or stab someone with 3 claws and rainbows came out the holes.

It’d be amazing for adult content, but…

Personally, I’ve been really ambivalent about this movie. One one side I’m excited that it looks nice and will include my favorite X-Men characters, and one the other hand, I’m really annoyed with the fact that they removed Gambit’s eyes and they seem to be slaughtering Deadpool’s storyline. I’m not to optimistic about it, but the least I can do is hope that they somehow, miraculously, can pull it off.

i dont have a comment on the picture ok well i do. IT SUCKS from the picture and the picture only taylor does not do gambit justice. thats all im gonna say about that.

what im really here for is to pitch out the plot of what x4 should be about.

ok here it is… well i was a little thrown off by seeing gambit in wolverines origin but this can actually help out x4.

ok so after seeing san francisco almost totally destroyed the us government is ready to do something about the mutants . now seeing how powerful they really can be, senator kelly hires an outside agency ran by trask and gyrich to come up with an idea of how to capture mutants. so they create the sentinels. so the sentinels go out and do their job and they start kidnapping mutants. and one of the mutants they kidnap is rogue. so the x-man are summoned by xavier (who is still alive in my version) to try to save her. but they fail. so wolverine comes out and says he knows a guy from his past who is a master thief and can break into any building or establishment without getting caught. and his name is gambit. so wolverine goes out to louisiana and tracks down gambit for his help. with a little convincing of some money and some great cuban cigars gambit agrees. so gambit goes to ny to help the x-man. gambit is successful in breaking in and rescuing rogue( but it wasnt an easy mission). gambit becomes very attractive to rogue so he decides to stick around the x-men. xavier feels that the sentinels are a threat not only to mutants but to society so he orders the xmen to destroy the sentinels and their base. so there is a final battle between the x-men and the sentinels and the x-men succeed.

x men
wolverine,gambit,cyclops,rogue,beast,storm, xavier

bad guys. senator kelly , trask , gyrich and the sentinels.

this movie would be the closest one to the comics and i believe it would bring back a lot of faith in us fans. what do you guys think?

Linda K. says:

Okay, it’s funny….

When I first heard that Taylor K. was going to be gambit, I was kind of sad. I like Taylor, especially on FNL, but him as Gambit??? HECK NO!!!

So, a couple of weeks ago, I was web surfing Gambit as usual and saw a couple of pics I’ve never seen of him. He was in a fedora looking hat, a dress shirt and his hair was shaggy and down. He reminded me of someone from the 40’s Gangster era.

Then I finally looked at the movie trailer. I usually dont like to look at movie trailers for Super-Hero type movies because the trailer can f**k it up for me. I saw Taylor as Gambit and well….he looked like Gambit did in the picture surprisingly. Okay….but where were his red eyes? And I’m a cajun girl to the fullest, born and bred in Louisiana and as God as my witness, if he f**ks up the accent, I will swear off these movies forever.

Oh yeah…great blog Rob. Enjoyed your insights dude. You took some of the words right out of my mouth.

jbreshaire says:

Right now all I can hope is that the director treats us to a special surprise when it comes to Gambit’s eyes when the film comes out May 1st.

I was more than excited when I heard they were finally casting Gambit in the movie. Taylor Kitsch seems to be a good pick for a young and brooding Gambit for this leg of the franchise. He can act and has lots of facial similarities with the current comic book version. However, I was upset by the trailer and stills showing Gambit without his trademark black and red eyes. It’s part of his look and his appeal in the comic books.

They were able to pull off the eyes of Mystique and Nightcrawler with special contacts in the previous X-films so…what the hell happened with Gambit’s eyes?

I hate to sound like a jerk because I have always been a huge X-Men fan and supported the X-films, but with the technology, special effects, and make-up available today, the crew could have done something about Gambit’s eyes for the film.

I persoanlly think that’s what the X-fans are dying to see as a challenge Hollywood would overcome and bring to life for the audience. I, like many other X-fans, will see the movie regardless, but if there isn’t a plot twist that ultimately shows Gambit’s trademark red and black eyes, we X-fans will be utterly disappointed.

Hugh and Taylor – Good luck and please don’t disappoint us!

Queen of Wakanda says:

As a Storm fan and lover for many many too many years, and having seen Halle Berry DESTROY her… Actual Quote:
Halle: “Does Storm HAVE to have white hair? I mean really? They wigs are just horrible.”
And we ALL know what happened to the African accent.

So to all Gambit and Deadpool fans — I hope they do you justice. I’m still waiting for mine!
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!

henry says:

i’am more exited to see gambit in the new x-men movie, than wolverine.

Rob Keyes says:

@ henry

late response by me, but same here :)

@ Queen of Wakanda,

I feel your pain – Storm is one of the greatest X/Marvel characters there is and I was disappointed with how her character (and Cyclops) was treated in the trilogy.

At least we can expect a remake in a few years, heh ;)

Patricia says:

Heh, I see you worrying the character might be screwed up in this movie. Well, we get Gambit with red eyes and him throwing cards, so that’s a bit of a relief, eh? ;) Can’t wait for the movie to come out.

jbreshaire says:

I still want to see him with red and black eyes as he does in the comics. if thedid it for Mystique and Nightcrawler, they could have done it here too. Bryan Singer’s departure messed up the X-Men franchise. We will have to wait like 10 to 20 years for Marvel Studios to get it right when Fox Studios’ license expires.

Infinite Shadow says:

btw gambit does have red and black eyes in the film, but only whe he uses his powers

jbreshaire says:

I appreciate the clarification, but all true Gambit fans know that having red and black eyes only whe he uses his powers in the film just isn’t the same. I will see the movie because i want to see wolvie and gambit, but I will wait and see if the movie sways me otherwise. Enjoy!

xfan says:

Based on his brief dialogue from the Official Site, Gambit DOES have an accent, but not nearly as strong as his cartoon charater’s.

Alisx123 says:

I only saw this movie because Gambit was in it. The movie was horribly shallow with character interactions that were so depthless I wanted to fall asleep.

The savign grace was that atleast Gambit was in it and I got to see him. I hope they make a Gambit movie. THAT would be a blockbuster
